Greetings brothers,

My intention is to share the painting project I started many years ago and to finish it.

As you will notice most of the marines are either 2nd, 3rd or 4th ed models. I consider myself more a modder than painter but lack, the utter patience most of the time for both.

My first 40k model (2006): The chaplain. After some time I had to make him more BT. Gave him a terminator shoulder bit and the holy hand grenade from the 4th ed BT upgrade kit. In those times you had other wargear options so his cape is the Ademantine mantle. Made a talbard and laser pointer on the boltpistol from green stuff.

Second photo: neophyte squad, all CC weapons. one member I had to convert from an Empire model and guard bits. Recently because the 9th ed has LOADS of bowl cuts, i decided to give the model a new do. (I might give myself such a hair cut as its freaking awesome!)

I will try update daily untill I have show most of the before or already finished pictures and then it will be every time I have completed a model or unit.

Praise the God-Emperor, beloved by all

Got a new phone 2 days ago and I'm not familiar with the options yet. hence the misty feel at the edges.

After opening the new codex two months ago, I noticed the sword brethren as unit sgts, which is amazing. So I started converting spare models and putting them on the larger bases. Would a stormbolter be a good option ingame on the shooty swordbrethren? I'm planning on giving them that regardless.

The other 9 marines in both squads have not a touch of new paint on them for at least 11 years. Ill have loads of finishing and touching up to do.

For the keen eyed ones among us, the second squad has a rogue trader model marine. No idea what weapon that is supposed to be.

Got Helbrecht from a gaming buddy for helping him paint his necron monoliths, the only thing was that the model was incomplete, no backpack or powerweapon :(. Im planning to give him the dreadnaught base and fill it with slain orks and servogimps.

My converted Vindicator with removable demolisher cannon which then doubles as a rhino, although I have never played it as such. Used a few Imperial Guard tank bits and cities of death buildings to complete this unit. I bought all these vehicles second hand.

Below that my only "pure" non multifunctional rhino.  Removed the paint of this many years ago but recently started painting this. it only needs some touch ups and detail work.

After that, two other rhino/whirlwind vehicles and my rhino from before. You can see what dust does to black paint of the years.

Funnily enough, I have never played with the whirlwinds, as the BT had no access to that in 4th and 5th.

Have one last very important thing to do with these vehicles and that is to give their machine spirits a name.

Remember when we had PotMS… made those Vindies so nasty !

Forgot all about those until you mentioned it, had to look it up and yes it was really something. That made me always think of the Dawn of War landraider.

Below we have a predator with converted sponsons as i really hate the tiny joints the original ones had. Looks more sturdy this way. (on the table at the time this unit was a beast, it would lay waste to all vehicles with the exception the necron monolith. for that I had the vindicator)

After that we have two units of 10 jump marines, most models are metal and weight more that the predator.  The load out at the time would have been PF and two flamers or two plasma pistols. I see the new book has way more options like the huge chainsword, might decide to add more option to these units.

Finally got the camera working!

Both upcoming pictures are of units I never used.

Some Sword brethren jump marines. Might decide to give some of them lighting claws.

A terminator chaplain with holy hard grenade, I gave all my characters that item as it was something i would always use.

1/ My venerable dread, where my former marshal of the crusade is interned. So he can keep doing the Emperor's holy work.  As you will notice its a converted dread with all bits and bobs attached to it. When i took it out of the storage box it was in multiple pieces, so i decided to repose the model. Maybe im the only one but the older plastic dreads had the pistons showing on the back of the legs and i really hated them as they would break often. so yesterday i filled the whole lower leg up with putty. I made this model able to swap its weapons layout to any of the time.

2/ long range dread, all metal (dark angels)

3/ close support dread, also all metal (and dark angels)

4/ CC dread

The next installment of my crusade are the heavy weapons. Back in 4th n 5th there was no devastators for the BT. (looking back the pics where quite limited) So ive never used some of these models in battle. Seeing I had loads of spare bolter marines, I could fill these units up to 10 man devastator teams. (the other models will be show on a later date)

If im not mistaken these 2nd ed metal shoulder weapons are the basis of the new (Warhammer 30000) plastic heavy weapons? The only drag with having these all metal models is that they break with the slightest wrong touch. (Yes one of these lascannon models is from 3rd or 4th ed)

Oh, you may need many dead orks bits to convert your old Helbrecht model fitting on 60mm base, while not looking too empty. Maybe pile a mountain of dead orks and let him stand on top of it:biggrin:

Man those minis bring back some memories for sure !!

prepare for more memberberries

The other heavy weapons for my 2nd devastator team.  2hb, plasmacannon and ml. Another problem with these metal model and weapons, sometimes they dont fit together and you need to use some green stuf to fill the gaps like on the hand of one of the heavy bolter marines.

You will notice the legion of the damned heavy bolter. (Are they still something?)

Some bolter marines, of which some are metal.

My techmarines, like a few other models I never fielded them in battle but I would use them to activate and bless each machine spirit before the battle.

I consider the 1st techmarine finished and not needing any more work done to it besides the base.

Finishing off this post with assault terminators, these bad boys would ride in style in a LRC. The weapons you see, I had to order from gw as i believe they did not have cc terminator weapons at that time. The last lighting clawed terminator I got that 3d printed recently.
