Inquisitor_Lensoven Posted September 14, 2022 Share Posted September 14, 2022 Excited for the rough/death riders to come, my army being dragoons it’s only right I have some traditional cavalry. im planning to use some demigryph knights for the job, but @$60 per 3 it’s kinda steep. anyone know of any good 3rd party options? I don’t think they’ve clarified which horse unit it will be, but if the rumors about being able to mix regiments freely are true it doesn’t really matter what kind of ‘riders’ they come out with. GreenScorpion Posted September 14, 2022 Share Posted September 14, 2022 Most 3rd party options that use something else than horses are as expensive or more than the demigryphs, so if cost is a limitation than that could prove problematic. Perhaps some 3d printed options could be slightly cheaper. Mantic might have some options depending on what you want, but model quality varies a lot. Some examples: panther riders - https://www.manticgames.com/games/kings-of-war/basilean/basilean-sisterhood-panther-lancer-regiment/ boar riders - https://www.manticgames.com/games/kings-of-war/dwarfs/dwarf-brock-riders-regiment/ Fireforge has some dwarf riders with ram mounts which you could convert ( https://fireforge-games.com/stone-realm/1016-rambukk-raiders.html ). For riders I have seen many people using Fireforge Northmen Cavalry as the riders are closer to heroic proportions than most historic miniatures ( https://fireforge-games.com/northern-kingdom/363-northmen-cavalry.html ). For historical riders, one suggestion from my side would be French Chasseurs à Cheval from Perry Miniatures, since they bring 14 horses but come with enough parts to build a total of 28 riders (you have more heads and torsos than 28, so you will still end up with spares), which would give you enough parts to make 14 riders with horses and 14 with other mounts. GreenScorpion Posted September 14, 2022 Share Posted September 14, 2022 For griffin mounts you could search in Etsy and similar websites (a quick search revealed several but despite slightly cheaper, with shipping it will likely be the same or more expensive) or if you have someone who can 3d print there are stl sources available, but for actual plastic, resin or metal miniatures there isn't much available and even if there are some options, they won't be necessarily cheaper. The only other option I see would be to search local stores for cheap plastic toys you could convert as the griffins, perhaps by mixing parts from birds with horse bodies or something similar. Yeah it just seems like a given to allow a bit of diversity to allow a semi-interesting full cav army that’s more than just 4 of the same unit and a random HQ just because you need an HQ tax.
