So last night my Predator Squadron, consisting of 2 vehicles, got charged by a unit of ~ 7 Cataphractii Terminators.  The charge distance, including pile-ins, took all his termies into the front of the lead predator only (charge distance was a 2 or 3, I think, and he was alrady a little strung out.  The 2nd predator was in cohesion, about 3 or 4" behind the first predator.  In total, my opponent hit with something like 12 attacks, ~6 were glances and 3 were penetrating hits.

My question is, after the first predator was destroyed (which took up something like at least 3 of his total "wounds", his unit would have been out of engagement range of the 2nd Predator, even with a consolidate move.  Do the remaining un-assigned glances/pens get lost at that point, or would they still carry over to the 2nd predator?

Here's a diagram to show how it looked/played out:

This question kind of came up a couple of weeks ago on here and other social media. Basically, they removed the 1st edition paragraph about squadrons in combat and the rules make you hunt down the sequence and come up with an interpretation.

The melee rules for single vehicles tell you to apply hits against rear armour following the ranged sequence. The ranged sequence for squadrons says after a model is destroyed, you pick the next one that's in los and range. The interpretation part is "what exactly is the 'in range' of melee attacks?". The most consistent answer is, imo, the limitations on assigning wounds in engagement range. If you follow that interpretation, then once your first model was destroyed, then your second model was no longer in engagement range and all hits at that initiative step would be discarded. This makes squadron combat consistent with every other form of melee, and consistent with how you parse rated hits for squadrons.
