Valkyrion
I can't find where in the rules it says you must deploy a portion of your. I presume they exist, or is null deployment a thing now? e.g The Imperial Fists Hammerfall Rite forces you to leave your vehicles in reserve, and encourages you to give many of your units deep strike, but doesn't specify a first turn drop (like Drop Pod Assault does) so unless there's a rule somewhere that I've missed then you've potentially got three turns of nothing going on... I'm sure the rule will be there, but the books aren't terribly intuitive. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/375942-null-deployment/ Share on other sites
Solution SkimaskMohawk Posted September 19, 2022 Solution Share Posted September 19, 2022 It's on page 305 under sudden death victory. My buddys first blood angel list of second accidentally made him auto lose because it scooped his javelins into deepstrike with everything else lol. Search function is a life saver if you have a digital file. Runefyre
To my knowledge performing a Drop Pod Assault is the only legal way to Null Deploy, because your pods are guaranteed to arrive T1. Eternal Despair
Angels wrath and the termite rite of war also enable you to null deploy as transport flyers come on turn 1 with angels wrath, and termites come in turn 1 with the termite rite of war Brofist 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/375942-null-deployment/#findComment-5867889 Share on other sites
Valkyrion
I was looking on p304 - deployment, so I was close! It makes the Hammerfall Rite a bit of an odd one doesn't it? You're encouraged to keep things in reserve for a deep strike assault (that might happen in turn 4), but you can't have vehicles on the board also potentially until turn 4, so a portion of your army is what, bait? It feels like I'm missing something obvious. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/375942-null-deployment/#findComment-5867919 Share on other sites
Brofist
Think of it as fire support before your other stuff deep-strike assaults. That isn't necessarily a bad thing Spagunk and SkimaskMohawk 2 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/375942-null-deployment/#findComment-5868033 Share on other sites
SkimaskMohawk
A lot of the rites that have optional deepstrike, but no guarantee of arrival, really ask the player to build the list carefully. So vehicles get stuck in normal reserves. But dreadnoughts, rapiers and speeders can fill a lot of the holes left by vehicles, both offensively and defensively. Instead of bait, it's now just additional pressure for your opponents to manage before the deepstrike comes in.
