Whilst I don't disagree with what you say there, if that was the basis of things that were called into a FAQ list, it would be a much smaller document.

Agreed. I do think the rule is clear: Template and Torrent weapons don’t ever measure the range to a target so nothing that affects range is relevant. 

But it’s clearly not universally agreed, so a FAQ would help clarify things.
