Question about undercoating and Zenithal Priming

So I'm currently doing some szarekhan dynasty necrons and I wanted to try zenithal priming but it occurs to me if I'm using a basecoat of runelord brass spray, is it just going to inevitably come on too thick and bury the zenithal priming so you can't tell? Is there anyway to zenithal prime with undercoats other than black and white? Or do I need to get an airbrush for that? Thank you!

You could prime black a and zenithal with the brass. White zenithal best used with transparent paint
