sibomots
On Leagues of Votann release day last weekend, I was at the GW store near by and was talking with the owner/operator. I was chatting while selecting paints and I commented that I had a document on my phone to help me remember which paints I already have so I don't accidently double up. He shot back that Citadel has an App for that. I was interested. So, I asked does it let me enter paints that are not Citadel Paints? Or discontinued colors in Citadel line and he said no. I haven't thought about since until today. So, I was wondering what the Frater think about the Citadel Paint App? Useful? I would probably end up using it for just managing my hobby colors (to avoid duplicate). More broadly, is there a consensus on tools used to manage the colors in your hobby box? Sorry the question isn't super technical, but I was just curious. Thanks Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/376118-citadel-paint-app/ Share on other sites
Bung
The GW App only works for GW stuff. I would recommend you the Paint Rack App, it has most hobby paint brands and more. Arkhanist
Seconding paintRack, I use multiple paint lines (GW, vallejo, AP, pro acryl, scale 75) and it's great for tracking what paints I have across all of them, and easily adding paints I need to buy to a list. It also has citadel classic for the discontinued ones. Most useful of all, when following a guide and it uses a paint I don't have (GW have soooo many paints), or I just want to colour match something, I can search if there's a close enough equivalent colour in one of the other pots I do have. Colours are the values provided by the paint manufacturer, so real paint can still be slightly off if you're trying to get an exact match alas. (also mainly works for normal paint, rather than metallics or stuff like Contrast) Oh, and you can record nested painting schemes, so you can add the paints you used for a particular colour, or all the subsections of the mini with text notes as you go. Dead handy if you look at an older mini and want to repeat something, but can't remember how you did it! (I try to record all my paint schemes now, given I tend to hop around between minis rather than just churn out an army in one go). You can also backup your data in case you lose your phone (advisable!) It was a paid app when I got it, but I think there's a free version now with some of the features disabled. The one thing I've used the citadel paint app for is when I want to see different options for highlighting a colour I rarely use, e.g. what different types of green highlights look like. Though they also have that info on the website when you look at a paint now, so I don't even need that.
