I've finally decided to start knocking down my eldar pile of shame, starting with some vehicles to knock the rust off of my painting skills in general but specifically with the airbrush. Because I have a trouble staying on a project and getting lost in chasing perfection, I have restricted myself to getting to a good spot and moving so the idea is airbrush these vehicles, do some details with a brush, and then simplify things like painting the weapons and the undersides of the vehicles gloss black.

First up was a Falcon with a really simple paint scheme to see how easy or difficult it would be to mask something over the curvy surface. Straight out of the airbrush booth, which took soooo long compared to when I was still actively using it a while back. There is some shade on the off-white and teal areas but it got washed out in my incredibly bright LCD lamp.

Panel lining done, canopy frame painted in, and I went back and did deeper shading with the airbrush but it is still not showing up under the crazy bright lamp.

Next up is a trio of Hornets, but I couldn't find all the parts for the third one initially.

The third one, once missing parts were found.

Will be trying to finish these up this week and move on to some heavy hitters, two of which are fictional but I thought would look cool (and I don't play the game anyway).

Thanks!

I have even more in the pipeline than the Warp Hunter variants above for aeldari and quite a bit on the drukhari side as well. I had forgotten how big my eldar pile of shame had gotten until I made a resolution about a month ago to start working on it.

It's nice to finally see these posted here. I like the colors you've chosen, and the variation in schemes is great.

Will you be focusing solely on engines of Vaul? Or can we hope/expect to see some Space Elves painted in these colors?

My original intent when I started collecting Eldar way back in 3rd was for a Saim-Hann force, so there are a lot of vehicles/constructs. I have 8 Falcon grav tanks, at least one Lynx, a Cobra, a Scorpion, a Wraithknight, a Revenant titan, around 50 of the old jetbikes still on sprue and a number partially assembled or loose, 5 or 6 Vypers, 2 old warwalkers, and a wraithlord. I'm focusing on the engines of Vaul right now for the practice, the confidence and motivation inspiring easy wins, and... while I try to finalize a paint scheme for the figures.

Here's some color tests I did a while back, with the drukhari one not getting finished because ADD hobby butterfly stuff.

The drukhari side of the Corsairs, of which I have a fair bit but not as much as Craftworld shame, will be mostly grey and I'm going to swap the teal in their scheme for magenta, but the canopies on the Venoms and maybe the sails on the raiders/ravagers will be teal.

I was also lucky enough to grab a Juan Diaz Hesperax in metal before the Failcast tidal wave swept in, but there was a lot of bad pitting in some of the low spots of the mini, namely the exposed upper thighs and the bare midriff which I filed down a little and did my best to reconstruct.

I've also recently jumped into tackling my Aeldari pile of shame, and while mine doesn't extend to superheavies it's still a lot to tackle. That's what drew me to this thread, I'm I'm glad it did. Those Grav tanks look so bold and your Hornets make me want to get a set myself, even knowing the price tag. Good luck with your Eldar backlog, it will be interesting to see what you'll start work on next.

Congrats on starting in on the pile of shame, I know it's not always easy. If you do get some hornets, which really do look nice, I want to offer a quick tip when cleaning up the resin supports on it.

If you're not real careful removing these it's very easy to have it break off part of the tail with them (ask me how I know). The best and safest way to do this is to heat up the resin so it's much softer and will cut without cracking or shattering. I prefer to drop it in boiling water, but some people use a heat gun. Those outer corners on the tails where two of the supports practically touch is where I broke mine. The great big pour gate in the circle is a real PITA too. After heating it up in boiling water, I used my sharpest sprue cutters to trim it as close to the tail as I could and then used a hobby knife to come in from the sides and clear out the last bits. Even then, I still needed to file the area smooth afterward.

Personally, I'm not going to add on the wing extension things because the support posts were all bent and I didn't want to go through the hassle of straightening them out, and most likely pinning them too because I have doubts about those thin resin posts supporting that weight. I also think the Hornets look fine without them.

Oh, and mine had some substantial gaps where the intake and thruster part on the underside attaches to the body.

But can clean up nicely with a little work, which I explain how I did in my other thread.

My goodness! Now I have even more respect knowing how much work was involved. I really liked the twin pulse laser armament for them but since a) they look extremely prone to warping and b) they nerfed them into a more autocannon-like profile I think I'd use some of the other weapon options instead. Looking at the sockets they use the same fitting as Vypers rather than War Walkers? They are such a graceful looking model. It's interesting to see the warts that are usually hidden when looking at the complete kit.

I am also a bit sad that I missed out on the Wasp variant walkers. The idea of War Walkers with jump jets was really cool. I think they were pretty much limited to the Cordair army though?
