Inceptors: modeling without the clear stand?

So I finally got some inceptors.

The reason it took me so long is because I hate the way they look with the fat floating cherub poses that they are supposed to be modeled with on their clear plastic "aerial" stands.

I'm also given to understand that they are not secure or stable no matter what glue you use, and prone to breaking at the connection point.

If I modeled them on foot, perhaps elevated from some sort of rock, do you think this would be considered cheating or "modeling for advantage".  They would still be mounted on the appropriate base size.

Thanks for your comments!

As long as the total height equals what they would have with the clear stands, I don't any reasonable person will take issue with it,

hey Arkley, while your Inceptors themselves look outstanding, I'm just not a fan of the whole "stick up their butt" look (whether its GW's stick up their butt or some third party stick up their butt).

Here is a pic of mine, taken on my potato:

The base is a bunch of wooden discs stacked on top of one another with a textured base on top. Posed them like they are using their jet packs to bound across the terrain.

They are very solidly attached to the base just by gluing them like any other model.

Unrelated - also removed their moon shoes and some of the weapon cabling for a more streamlined look.

that looks pretty decent Phandaal.  What chapter are they?  Also how did you achieve that glossy black look?

Angels of Vengeance. They are a Dark Angels Second Founding successor chapter. One of these days I will put transfers on their shoulder pads!

The armor gets a coat of Liquitex satin varnish after painting. It is not quite as glossy in person but it does stand out nicely from the matte base.
