kieronn94
Hey :) I have just started getting into heresey and im struggling forming a list with a Rite of War. Currently I have the contents of the age of darkness box. 3 predators (1 support) 1 Leviathan dread 10 Seige terminators 1 heavy weapons upgrade box If anyone could give me some advice on how to build this into a viable army or let me know what i need to add to it to make it viable. Ill really appreciate it, thank you :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/376883-hey-all-need-help/ Share on other sites
SlickSamos
I'm going to make a few assumptions: You want to play with as many of the toys you have as possible You want to play IW You've run out of Heavy Support slots and are hoping a RoW will fix it The only RoW which will meaningfully move something out of the HS slots is the Armour Spearhead. However this likely means that you'll have to leave you Havocs behind and buy some more tanks and potentially create more problems than it solves... You are probably better off playing either without a RoW or with Hammer of Olympia (easy to meet restrictions, but doesn't free up any HS slots) and making a choice about which HS units you want to run. It might be that you paint everything then switch units around between game sessions to get an idea of what works and what you like. Hope this helps! Valkyrion
You could run the heavy weapons in Veteran squads (assuming its the Heavy Bolter and Missile Launcher pack). That could give you 2 x 10 veterans, a contemptor and a 10 man cataphractii squad in the Spartan in the elites choice. Your Tyrants, Leviathan and 3 Predators in the heavy support slots. 2 x 10 man tactical squads in the troops choice. Praetor and Centurion in the HQ. As far as starts go it's not bad and it uses everything you've got so far, but no Rite of War. You don't need a rite of war though. Think of a Rite as further specialising your special units - like Blood Angels with a better Deep Strike, or Night Lords playing with Fear. An Iron Warriors army with 20 terminators, 40 bolters, 4 tanks and 2 dreadnoughts is totally on theme. You can kind of do that, but it ends up being very expensive points wise (5 Vets with 1 HB is about the same cost as 5 Havocs all with HBs). I'd recommend just picking which HS options you'd like to play with, but to get the most out of your models Valkyrion's list does provide a good framework. (Tyrants can also take a Spartan as a DT) If possible, I think your next buy should probably be a box of Mk. III tactical marines as they are more IW style than the Mk. VI ones and you can put spare the Mk. III helmets onto your Mk. VIs to spice them up. It'll also bulk out your tactical squads which is no bad thing Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/376883-hey-all-need-help/#findComment-5892494 Share on other sites

kieronn94
Can i only give 1 member of the veteran squad a heavy weapon? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/376883-hey-all-need-help/#findComment-5892539 Share on other sites
SlickSamos
Some list ideas as I can't stop thinking out it (sorry-not-sorry). With your models I'd build something like the following for 1k5 and for 2k - whilst it doesn't use all of the cool models in one list, it does let you use them across two different lists at two different point levels. 1,500 points - Heavy Weapons Cataphractii Siege Breaker: Thunder Hammer, Combi-Bolter & Grenade Harness; Warlord: Tyrant of Dodekathon - 150 Attached to the Tyrant Siege Terminator squad Master of Signals: Power Axe & Bolt Pistol - 110 Attached to the Heavy Support squad Contemptor Dreadnought: upgraded as desired ~ 190 15 man Tactical Squad: Vox & Vexilla plus additional upgrades ~ 200 15 man Tactical Squad: Vox & Vexilla plus additional upgrades ~ 200 5 man Heavy Support Squad: Lascannons - 150 5 man Havoc Squad: Autocannons - 135 6 man Tyrant Siege Terminator Squad: 2x Chainfists & 4x Powerfists - 365 (due to weird points costs, it effectively only costs 50 points more to run a Master of Signals with a 5-man Heavy Support Squad with Lascannons compared to a 5-man Iron Havoc Squad with Lascannons, essentially netting a 60 point discount on a HQ...) 2,000 points - Tanks! Cataphractii Siege Breaker: Thunder Hammer, Combi-Bolter & Grenade Harness; Warlord: Tyrant of Dodekathon - 150 Attached to the Tyrant Siege Terminator squad Contemptor Dreadnought: upgraded as desired ~ 190 14 man Tactical Squad: Vox & Vexilla plus additional upgrades ~ 190 14 man Tactical Squad: Vox & Vexilla plus additional upgrades ~ 190 Leviathan Dreadnought: upgraded as desired ~ 290 2 tank Predator Squadron: upgraded as desired in an Anti-Tank configuration ~ 300 6 man Tyrant Siege Terminator Squad: 2x Chainfists & 4x Powerfists - 365 Spartan - 350 Edit: 29 minutes ago, kieronn94 said: Can i only give 1 member of the veteran squad a heavy weapon? 1-in-5 can take either a Special or Heavy weapon, so a max squad could take up to 2.
