Hi all,

I picked up some second hand FW models recently, and they seem to have been painted with  Tamiya's clear paints over silver - the paint has the appearance of some kind of laquer. I'd want to strip them back before repriming, I just wanted to check whether 99% isopropyl would be sufficient to remove the tamiya, or so I need something stronger? I'm assuming that acetone would just melt the resin like it would plastic?

Anyone got a suggestion?

I've seen people say AK Paint Stripper will remove more-or-less anything from Forgeworld resin. Just don't soak it (brush it on and off), as there's a chance it'll damage the resin:

I've also seen people say BioStrip20 works OK.

I should add that I've not used either of these products on Forgeworld resin (it's a case of repeating what I've seen someone else say), so obviously try on a piece of gating or similar to confirm before applying to a model.

I did see that link in the other thread about the stormbird, thanks! I'll maybe have a look if the strippers I have dont work.

I have had success with ISO 99.9% but I will add I did not leave it more than 10 mins.

I'll give that a try with just dunking it and scrubbing maybe, without leaving it to soak too long like you say.

ISO does its work quick, I use a cheap oral-b electric toothbrush too.

If in doubt you got a crap piece for testing?

My advice, take a casting block and coat the living gak out of it with similar paints, let it fully cure, then try stripping it. That way if it all goes wrong you've only lost a rectangle.
