I was looking at the plague marine and legionaries datasheets and was thinking, what if each intercessor squad could take the sergeant weapon options?

so a squad of 5 assault intercessors could be the sergeant with a thunder hammer with a plasma pistol, then the 4 basic guys could have one power fist with a hand flamer, one with a power sword, and the last two with chain swords. You could only use whats on the sprue so you couldnt have 5 thunder hammers or anything crazy, but it would give the troops some punch.

They wouldnt have the loadout options that the other two do though. Company veterans can take the whatever loadoutd they want, and vanguard veterans have access to almost anything that they want too. The intercessors would just get a thunder hammer, power fist, and power sword. The intercessors are still way worse but at least they can do some damage in melee.

Problem with that is it increases the time taken to fight/shoot with a unit. If every model has a different weapon, the fight phase goes on forever.

This is a more general problem with the state of the game atm, but it's probably best to not make the situation worse.

Exactly why they gutted assault units in the transition from 2nd to 3rd edition, in the time it took you to resolve a combat between two units in 2nd you could have done the whole phase in 3rd.
