Guest
Not one for these kind of threads usually but its more of an off shoot of the Predicting Primaris thread. It seems a lot of us want Primaris Terminators I am one of them (I know I will buy at least 50). So what do you consider the most iconic space marine unit? If its not clear its Terminators and I remember the joy when I first got the set in the photo... RTB01s are nice but for me it has to be this set and Terminators in general. BadgersinHills
To me I really think the tactical squad is quite iconic in its various iterations, the Godwyn bolters and Mark VII helms being quite classic even though I like bolter astartes in whatever form. Spyros, templargdt, Iron Father Ferrum and 2 others 5 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/377005-most-iconic-space-marine-setunit/#findComment-5895690 Share on other sites
lansalt
It's the humble Tactical Squad, and it's not even close. Nah the tactical squad is a good shout, and I have a feeling I am on the losing end of this. :). Robbienw
Tactical Squad for sure. Followed by Terminator Squad, Assault Squad, Devastator Squad and Scout Squad, in that order Iron Father Ferrum 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/377005-most-iconic-space-marine-setunit/#findComment-5895717 Share on other sites
Blindhamster
Tactical squad, as others said... or rather... the humble bolter marine in any iteration from the humble origins of RT101 right up to the intercessor IMO, they all ultimately share the same base silhouette. Whilst I've never liked them, I'd agree that the Indomitus terminators are next, I think cataphracti and tartaros terminators diverged too far from the silhouette to necessarily count. Noserenda
That terminator box was awesome but the iconic marine is a mk7 tactical marine, much as i generally prefer Primaris the mk7 lid is still the face of the range (Which is why most of mine still wear them :D ) Iron Father Ferrum and Blindhamster 2 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/377005-most-iconic-space-marine-setunit/#findComment-5895721 Share on other sites
Captain Idaho
I appreciate the question because in my head I was remembering the first big boxed set I got, which was squad Calidus Ultramarines Terminator squad. All old school lead, pre-metal days. Actually poisonous to us and be it never done me no harm. Great days. That to me was iconic in my own mind and anyone else was wrong. Then I read in this thread about the bolter Marine, extended out to the Tactical Marine (logically) and realised... damn. Yes I'm wrong. Damn. I had Squad Calidus and Gauis too for my 2nd Edition Ultras. Though I personally always preferred mk 4 and 8, which is probably why I love the mkX so much. Daimyo-Phaeron Lenoch
Tactical Squad, Terminator Squad, and the humble Rhino for me, I think, in that order (okay, this is top three, but it's regular infantry, heavy infantry, and tank, so they're different enough categories I'd call it good). Captain Idaho
Was there a really iconic character? The old lead Captains, Dante (who was Tycho in an old old Battle Report many moons ago)... pretty much the stuff that found its way into the 'Eavy Metal pages in the Rulebook and Codex Imperialis. The lead Dreadnought, which I still have and use just in case I need to shove it in a sock and utilise it in self defence against a maraudering mob of Orks. Lord_Ikka
Mine would be the mk7 tac squad from 3rd edition- it was my first box and started me down the hobbying road. Lord Nord in Gravis Armour
That Terminator Captain looks like Arnim Zola with the head placement. I guess it's no surprise that Terminator models were never able to achieve anything approaching realistic proportions when they were working from O.G. designs like that, Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/377005-most-iconic-space-marine-setunit/#findComment-5896245 Share on other sites
