Reinforcements (or How to pass those long All-Winter evenings)

The Wolf's Eye has dwindled in the sky and the dark of All-Winter closes in. As we gather round the hearth fires, let us turn our thoughts to mustering reinforcements for the coming Spring.

 

I am currently working a squad of Wulfen with all TH/SS loadout. These guys are absolutely crusted with details which I suspect will take me a while to do justice to. I left the shields off to make painting these details easier but on reflections, I wish I had left the backpacks and hammers off too.

 

 

What do you have on your workbenches Fraters?

Hmmm... I actually have my own Wulfen waiting completion, and where is a squad of jump pack wolf guard and about two packs of skyclaws as well...

The Wulfen are nearly done but I have run out of Warboss Green and Aggrax Earthshade so I will have to wait until after the weekend to get them finished and photographed.

 

In the meantime, I have started work on a new project. @Brother Captain Arkley very kindly donated a Marneus Calgar to me so I decided that he needed to be a bit more Wolfy. I am currently converting him into a Wolf Lord in Gravis Armour with dual power fists. I have been busing carving off all the UM symbols and will make a start on wolfing him up over the next week or so. Here is the work so far.

Got my classic iron priest completed recenly also working on 3 plasma Scimitar jet bikes with plasma canon.

Tomorrow I will recover a parcel with inbound reinforcments. Some WolfGuard Terminators. They will not really be used for new unit, rather to complete existing ones. Indeed most of my WG are lower than 5 men-strong, coming from the times when it was possible for tailoring number of retinues.

So 4 of them will complete 2 existing units (2 will go with TH/LC, 1 with SBolter and Chainfist and another one à la Varagyr (power weapon and SBolter.))

The fith one will be combined with bits to make a Termie chaacter for my small Death Watch Detachment (this letter will also grow up with a SM biker unit).

My new Gravis Captain "Noteus Calgar" is coming along a treat. I was trying to decide how wolfy to make him and decided that it is simply a case of, more is more! So I have given a full back banner, necklace, wolf tail and wolf skulls on the power fists. I have also base coated the various piece in appropriate primers. Now comes fun part of painting all the fine details.

Slightly off topic but I am quite taken with the idea of taking the Master Crafted relic on the Boltstorm Gauntlet. That gives the shooting profile 2 Damage per shot and the melee profile 3 damage per hit. Not many weapons have both shooting and melee profiles but the Boltstorm Gauntlet potentially lets me double up on the value of the Relic.

And here they are: 4 termies to be added to uncomplete squads (see in my galleries for them with their mates) + a DW Captain with small weapon swap. Sorry for the blurry pic...

Still some work to go on my conversion of Calgar into a Gravis Wolf Lord but it is starting to look quite good.
