Hey All,

I'm just about to kick off my new army build after a 15 year hiatus. I want to do a Dark Angels build, and really want to try a Grimdark paint scheme. Most use air-brush and thats a technique ive never tried before.

After not painting for so long, I'm trying to get some access to some cheap mini's to tech techniques and colours to help work out wat i want. I obviously dont wantr to do this with my propper minis i buy. I dont even care if the models are a bit broken or imperfect.

Are eBay minis real? I look at some of the prices and i just question their legitimacy ( i wont post links as I dont know if its against the forum rules, but i'm sure you can find in eBay if you wanted to look).

Any other ideas? I dont need even Dark Angel minis, just any Space marines so i can test the techniques and colours.

Getting legit GW/FW resin models on eBay is VERY hit and miss, but if they're plastic it's a safe bet they're the real deal.  If you're looking purely for test figs, look at firstborn models, they are typically cheap as chips in comparision to Primaris if you consider GW's RRP.

I know it's not quite what you asked, but isopropyl alcohol and Biostrip 20 are both very effective at stripping acrylic paint from plastic, and neither will damage GW plastics* (should help you reduce the number of test minis you need ).

* I would note that Biostrip 20 can damage some plastics, but not the plastic GW currently uses.

This. Taking some old mangy-looking models put together 20 years ago by a small child is probably the best value on eBay.  Some paint stripper and an old toothbrush will in most cases restore them to close to their original state and test models don't mind if their bolters are glued on upside-down or whatever curious flaws you find.

Yeah just buy any old crap off ebay, you may even get a space marine with his bare head glued on upside down like I did. I hope whoever did that was a Family Guy fan, its not like you can get confused on what way a humans head attaches to the body.
