Doghouse
This is something that I have wanted to make for a very long while and as I wanted to get an army together for 40k I figured what the heck. One of my all time forty kay stories comes from the original RT era White Dwarf Compendium and is about an Imperial Guard company trying to break through the Eldar lines and the commander decides that after much strategic back and forth to just slam a bunch of Ogryn into them and see what happens. That is kind of the inspiration behind these guys that should just be a simple build and paint force of a Cadian Castellan, a bodyguard and eighteen Ogryn with rippers guns. As Commander Fleyitch put it "Let's see how those degenerate sophisticates handle a healthy dose of pure unreasoning violence." Cadian Castellan & Bodyguard I'm currently playing around with this model as my first option. She's made from various bits from the Cadian Command sprue and I am going for a reluctant last survivor leading the platoon. So not so much chose to accept command but rather was the last person alive, so I am adding bits that she has put together to keep alive herself. I am tempted to try and make Commander Fleyitch and Commissar Vertren from the story instead in the old RT style guard look but I'll have to see what happens. This one is quite a subtle conversion but I am really not a fan of models standing on things with one foot so decided to move away from the trench coat official model that is in the kit and go for more of a salvaged look where she's wearing a standard uniform but has had to remove the armour of her dead commander in order to get the Ogryns to do as she says. I did try the female bare head but I find the heads to be a little too big for me so opted instead for the slightly smaller female helmet head. I still need to add a sword but wanted to keep her gear as basic guard like as I could so she's wearing a dead man's Flak armour, has her standard issue side arm and a sword she retrieved from an officer which I will be adding later. I don't have any names for these or much lore just yet other than they are the remains of a Cadian company that got wiped out as I am focusing on more getting them built so I can paint something. The bodyguard is armed with a slab shield and ripper gun, not for any particular reason other than if I were an Ogryn with choice of what kit to take that's what I would use. When the Rogal Dorn comes out I may add one to this little force and go Hogan's Heroes with them or make a Ratling crew but for now it's just the Ogryn Platoon. At the moment I have no idea about points because I am making them simply because I think they are cool. Doghouse
Thanks Duz_ I can't promise battle picts as I don't know anyone in the hobby anymore and live the hermit life but I will try and put up some nice shots as I go. Just a quick update. I'm wokring on a simple loop attached to the backpack of the Castellan and put on a power sword. I was going to attach it to her waist but it was getting a bit crowded with the other gear. With the Ogryn I'm not overly happy with the way the arms and head attach as the gap is visible so I am currently blending the seams with GS to try and make it a bit more natural. I am tempted to try and put a Darktide style cadian helmet on him but really want to crack on with making the others so I can get painting. Trokair
An Ogryn centric force, nice to see another one, good luck with the force. Have you looked at the Necromunda slave Ogryn kit for parts, there are some goods bits in there, if it had bee naround when I did mine it would have been handy. Back at the beginning of 8th, when we could use the Imperium keyword to form armies I made a little 1000p or thereabouts army that was centred on Ogryns using Ogryn like profiles from a few other places to fill out the roster. Alas the change to keyword rules means it has just sat around unused. Spoiler From Left to Right. Front row: Nork Deddog, The Warlord Ogryn with tribarrled melta and big sword (Inquisitor Karamazov count as), and a Psyker Ogryn (Mephiston count as). Back Row: 3 Bullgryns with grenade launchers, 3 Heavy weapon servitor Ogryns (katahpron count as), 3 Ogryns and 6 Bullgryns. Doghouse
Inquisitor_lensover: Fixed that for you! Trokair: Those are very nice. Yeah I've looked at the Necromunda kit and some of the heads will work along with some of the bionic bits. I'm probably going to use the Ark of Omens detachment for this one and maybe throw in a Rogal Dorn and some Sentinels. Ideally a Commissar will join them and maybe some Salamander Marines as allies, not sure yet. Just a quick update as I plod on with these guys. I have another fifteen sat unbuilt but hope to get some progress tomorrow. I am going to go all Ripper Guns though, the new rules aren't too bad now but it's more to do with it being such an iconic loadout for them. I do have a load of plastic Ratling snipers from back when I was going to make a Ratling company I could add for more flavour later. Based in this detachment I could well add another three squads of six which would bump it up to just over 1k points worth of Ogryns numbering 37 if I include the Bodyguard. batu and Emperor Ming 2 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/377156-astra-militarum-ogryns-army/#findComment-5900077 Share on other sites
Emperor Ming
Adding in lord solar so they can get some orders? Doghouse 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/377156-astra-militarum-ogryns-army/#findComment-5900092 Share on other sites
Doghouse
That might make for an interesting model but I am not sure he'd lower himself to lead such a rag tag force. I am not 100% sure but I am sure I read Commissars can give orders them. If not maybe I can proxy the Lord Solar or model him so he's been separated from his command, might make for an interesting theme with them escorting him back to HQ. Trokair
Convert one to be on a stretcher carried by two Ogryns. Doghouse 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/377156-astra-militarum-ogryns-army/#findComment-5900098 Share on other sites
Slave to Darkness
Would this be based on the short story where an ogryn was scratching his back with a broken rhino exhaust? Comissars can indeed give Prefectus Orders to Ogryn squads,, not quite as useful as the standard orders but they do help. Emperor Ming
I hate how ogryns cant be ordered, they clearly do get ordered, the bonehead lore goes into that Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/377156-astra-militarum-ogryns-army/#findComment-5900465 Share on other sites
Inso
I love the idea of an Ogryn platoon :) . I've got 12 of my own (a mix of 40k and Necromunda) to do something similar. I'm looking to have a proxy Commissar (a Catachan Squat) to act as the leader but I haven't got very far with the project yet. All I've got is a half converted Ogryn bodyguard. So far, the conversions you are doing look very smooth and I'm looking forward to how this project of yours pans out :) . duz_ 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/377156-astra-militarum-ogryns-army/#findComment-5900621 Share on other sites
