30k in General painting blog thing. Night lords, dark angels and IW

EDIT(10/23/2024): Rather than start a whole new thread I figure I would rename this old thread and just add stuff to it as it comes along and I think about it. Tall order but every blue moon I remember to take a pic or two. My Dark angels have kind of taken a back seat as I kind of got bored of painting black. I use much of that force to play 40k on the rare occasions I get to play 40k and havent played 30k at this point in about a year and a half or so. Hoping to change that in the near future. Kind of funny to reread my old stuff I have written here to see what didnt age well.

 

Decided to bite the bullet and go ahead and build a new HH army since I found a group that regularly plays(So much for that). I have a large and mostly finished IW army but I play IW often in 40k so I wanted something different. This one is a more close up force compared to my very shooty IWs and will have more vehicles and less mass troops and terminators. So far I am enjoying the paint scheme(totally got bored painting black and red checkerboard). I am actually anxious to burn off a lot of models I have sitting around unused(Still there). I also have plans to build a drop pod assault force for the same reason. I could print half a dozen Drills but then I have to paint and store half a dozen drills. I am going to dual use my drop pods for my 40k Howling griffens army(Well that didnt work out so well did it)

 

I ordered Marduk whom I am going to swap weapons with a big axe to be Redloss and a squad of the Cenobyte terminators plus a landraider ride for them. 

At this time the Decal sheet is sold out. I need one. Once I get my initial stuff done I will likely pick up a Lion. I havent seen my group using primarchs so there is no rush for escalation.(Still havent)

Fire Raptor Gunship- Hellstrikes, autocannons (already have)

Sicarian Punisher with mass heavy bolters everywhere one can be mounted (already have)

Sicarian Venator with lascannons and searchlight. (already have)

 

The Fire raptor I already own and is basically subbing in until the Cerebus gets released. WHich will probably be long before I finish everything else in the list.  Currently working on converting some Sanguinary guard from my growing pile of shame into the Deathwing companions. Ill include it in the pics below of the first one so far. I need to re-oil the worm drive on my printer and print up some winged helms I havent located yet. Project for the weekend that maybe I will get to. Pics to follow of the basic scheme I am going for.

 

 

The dude with the funny looking weapon was a weapon I used originally as a volkite weapon back in 6th edition before they released the actual weapons. I think it looks fine as an interempter plasma weapon. Not completely done with the top photo guy on the left. Still need to do a satin finish on them. Then on the deathwing companion test dude I want to greenstuff a cape.

Love the red and white chequers. And the RT style helmet stripe. Have you thought about the legacies pdf and going with Tartaros Deathwing Companions - might be fun to bling them up instead of the sanguinary guard?

You know, I forgot those were even a thing. I have a bunch of them around too except they all have lightning claws. Hopefully I will get to the 3D printer on Sunday.

i decided to work on some of my Night Lords for a bit. Doing Sevatar, a Dorito and Contempter now. Still havent decided what to do for a command squad/retinue. Once they are done i guess i will go through the effort of painting drop pods..... yay. Bottom pic was a WIP of the unit. I find it amusing how you suddenly can see the flaws once you post a pic online for everyone to see. El Jimador there I literally had to dust off as he has been sitting in just his base colors for about a year now on my shelf. Originally, he was a Red Scorpion Leviathan ages ago when Cullin was still rocking terminator armor. Then he was a Night Lord for a very short while. Then he was a Star Phantom and never saw the table. Now he is back to being a Night Lord again, but new and improved with a plastic claw. Im not removing the heavy flamers, I dont think volkite even existed when I first got him back in the day.

The early stages of these three. Before work i will add my wash to Sevie and the dorito. The ancient Calth era contempter already has it. Then i will do metals and lightning and start details. I saw a cool tutorial on human skin cloaks so i might give that a try.

Thanks! Its taken 25+ years but I think I finally have come up with a lightning recipe thats replicable that I like lol :)
