Allies and other ROWs

Does anyone use allies in their lists and combine RoWs in a force?

For example I was thinking a DA Drop Pod assault force and either a BA or AL Allied Recon company. Just enough dudes to provide a presence on the field for the benefits of recon company and in this case fairly fluffy with the scouts on the ground coordinating with a orbital strike force, like Combat Controllers in real life. Also some different paint schemes.

Sure, that’s something you can do. Recon company is a useful and thematic allied detachment to take.

 

Something to watch out for is that not all Rites of War can be taken for allied detachments. Some of the core rites are restricted and also some of the Legions aren’t allowed to take their specific rites unless your warlord is from that legion. So for example you can have White Scar allies with one of their rites but Raven Guard are stuck with generic ones. This seems to be pretty random and May one day be changed in a FAQ.
