Guest
I am not sure there is a fluff reason... I am thinking of my next Assault Intercessors and I just can't shift from wanting chain axes. I used to do LARPing (My main weapon was a 2 handed Bearded Axe) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/377540-why-no-chain-axes-bro/ Share on other sites
Machine God
Because it is primarily used by the Chaos Space Marines! Its viewed as a Heretic Weapon. Tacitus
Basically that with a hefty dose of "Because I said so". I can't imagine you'd get much pushback if you modeled chainswords as Chain Axes but used Astartes Chain Sword profiles. Especially if you're DIY'ing your own chapter. Looking at the Forgeworld 30K area, it looks like Space Wolve Terminators used them. Iron Father Ferrum
Because loyalists don't actually have access to chainaxes, I don't think there's any harm in your modeling chainswords as such; there's no way they'll be mistaken for anything else if someone tried to apply WYSIWYG too hard. Brother Tyler
Chainaxes would be great as a weapon used by some Chapters. After all, these proud scions of Sanguinius were depicted as using them during the Third War for Armageddon: Bouargh and Iron Father Ferrum 1 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/377540-why-no-chain-axes-bro/#findComment-5909135 Share on other sites

But its more my love of axes in general, and while they are not an actual wargear option I would think all Chapters might have them, Space Wolves and Flesh Tearers especially. I do think more aggressive marines of various chapters might like axes more. lansalt
I think in 40k only borderline renegade/bad boy chapters like the Flesh Tearers or the Carcharodons (both with a long history going back to the 2nd founding) have used chainaxes. It would be out of character for UM, BA, IF, DA, etc. or their successors to use them. After all, it was the signature weapon of the World Eaters, and it's probably seen by many as a reminder of the Heresy and traitors. Tacitus
Space Wolf Terminators used them in 30K. I think they'd be perfectly fine in a Celtic/Viking themed chapter. Even preferred. I think If I were doing them in UM, I'd do something like Company Vets etc, use some of the Breachers/Suzerain/3D Printed bits with a counts As Thunderhammers or some such, and that's the ancient panoply that squad has had since the dawn of the Ultras. Morovir
In The Purging of Kadillus, one of the Dark Angels sergeants wields a chainaxe. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/377540-why-no-chain-axes-bro/#findComment-5909497 Share on other sites
