So i entered a tournament as eldar after a while and i had lost my objectives. I go buy, and the only ones left were Chaos. Bought them.  I play the tournament (40 ppl), a draw for extra presents happen, and i get Abaddon.  The gods of chaos have revealed themselves to me!!! Csm it is. I made the decision and made the first purchase (legionaires) yesterday. I may buy balefleet too but that depends on my list building thoughts that have yet to develop (heldrake is a bad unit, i must think of the rest of the units).

 

I shall post progress (pics, purchases , tactics thoughts/lists, games, tournaments) in this thread.

still havent glued anything. question regarding the legionaires: 
for my first squad, i'd prefer to build 2x5 squads. however, i am at a loss on how best to utilise options inside the box.

 

in theory, i intend for them a role of "sit back in an objective and shoot". would plasmagun be better for that? flamer? heavy bolter/missile instead?
 

one thought is the following:

1x5 with plasmagun

1x5 with heavy bolter (the idea is that plasmagun and heavy bolter fulfill similar stand back and shoot roles)

That beginning looks good, have you had any thoughts about the champions? I like to have something that can hit hard in melee in every unit, like a powerfist. If I am not completely wrong there is only one PF in the legioners box. And just so you know, I did not when I assembled my first csm, the champion can carry the icon, and you should always have an icon in a squad. There are two Icons in the box, so that is not a problem if you want to do two squads. What legion are you thinking of starting, with Abaddon, I would guess Black legion.

The first 5 man units really should by barebones.  You can always use the spare bits later to fill out on bling.  Wargear is free atm but who is to say GW wont jack up the points cost again in 6 months or release a new edition.  Better to have your guys lean and mean imo.  Unless of course you just want your army to look maximally cool at all times.

change of plans; just saw a combat patrol box with 30% discount, and given price increases soon, and being (just) within my weekly budget, it was too good a chance to pass up. time to think harder on future plans, like maybe my first 1000 pt list before gluing :).

 

...so first thoughts on buildup:

2x5 man legionairies with plasmagun, axe champion & mark of nurgle (sit on some objective, hope not to die too fast)

1 x 10 man legionairies unit with ccws and mark of khorne, powerfist on champion

1 x 5 man havocs with 2 lascannons and 2 autocannons.

helbrute w/ mark of tzeentch , multimelta, heavy flamer.

dark apostle w/ illusory supplication 

abaddon.

 

i realise illusory supplication does nothing for such small squads, but maybe later on i will buy something truly more resilient, idk.

so here's current progress. the rhino is a used loyalist converted one-gift from a friend .

 

next thoughts:

i think it is stupid to think 2k lists since edition will probably change before i finish 2k. it is best to buy a box that i like every 1-2 months and see where that takes me once edition is changed, see what units work then etc.

 

an interesting thought i had is, 2x5 warp talons and 3 bikers. this will be a lightning fast contingent, and no matter what changes next edition, i reckon lightning claws on jump packs and a small skirmish unit will have a role.

...so, time for a break in buying stuff. so much to paint, force is almost 1.4k at this point. i think the best thing to do is start painting, wait for 10th, then fill the rest of the points according to changes.

this is close to 2k (depending on enhancements, but rhino would take me over 2k), and i will play in a tournament saturday. unconventional choice for 1st game, but oh well. seems such a fun index :)

...so, small tourney, just 3 rounds, helping us to get used to the edition.

i had two losses (66-41 and 92-73) and a win (100-22).

abaddon + terminators, chosen, and forgefiends rule. bikes and legionaries and  helbrute did fine. both characters are mediocre. i need more practice with havocs as i found it hard to get them to good position to get fire lanes.

i will get some more games in, but most likely i shall make changes.
