Astartes Consul
Revising my 2,000pts XIII Legion list now that I've finished some other projects and want to get back to my main love - painting blue & gold. WolfLogic
I personally don’t really see why you’re taking the Spartan, I feel like a Land Raider Proteus Carrier would be sufficient, and a bit less hard at 2k points. I’m not sure if you had points left over and decided to chuck artificer armor on all your Sergeants but I don’t feel like it’s worth the points and also doesn’t really make sense for every Sergeant to have Artificer Armor from a fluff perspective. This may be me being a bit of a noob but I also feel like you don’t need the Augury Scanner, Vexilla, and Nuncio Vox on both your Tac Squads. I’d just take the Nuncio Vox and leave the other two off. For your Jetbikes, I suggest the Vexilla as if you lose combat you’re falling back really far and that could cause you to go clear off the table. _________________________ Personally I’d change your Delegatus to a Cataphractii Delegatus and attach him to a 5-man Cataphractii Squad (with a load out of your choice). I’d put your Tac Squads in Rhinos, the mobility and shooting the combi Bolter on the rhino before the Tac Squads to gain the benefit of your legion rule for +1 to hit is great and how I run my squads. I don’t think you need the Dozer Blade on the Scorpius but it’s so cheap it probably doesn’t matter. With these changes you should have about 250 extra points, maybe throw them into a Contemptor or Predator Squadron. Let me know what you think. dickyelsdon
Your list looks nice but maybe trying to cover too many bases at 2000pts, that strong core of terminators will do well and mobility of jetbikes is great, but what is each unit good at shooting and which units will support each other? Also, you've spent 40pts on Vox to help the scorpious (120pts) hopefully not scatter. Maybe spend a bit less For my Ultramarines I want to make the most of the +1 hit bonus, as its our big thing. Other legions dont have to think too much to use their legion trait but Ultramarines need a bit of thought. How do you plan to use the list? The spartan is often ok to shoot fist with its twin-linked guns but there is not much else in your list is for shooting other vehicles/dreadnoughts. Using its heavy bolter (and power of the machine spirit!) to target infantry could pass on the bonus to tacticals or the terminators, but that would force you to deploy in a pretty tight formation (and exploding spartans are not fun). The tacticals/recon could support each other or even the sky-hunters, but you wont really want to be holding those back to within 6" of the each other?. If you did want to make any changes then consider a few supporting pieces. Rhinos are often popular as they can shoot infantry or vehicles to 'spot' them for other units. Its a bit boring but a contemptor in the middle of your line is also a great option, with BS5 and correctly armed it can shoot at anything effectively and then pass on the bonus to nearby units to finish off the target. WolfLogic
Another thing I just realized is that the Sky Hunter Squad can't take Melta Bombs. I'm also pretty sure you got the points cost of the Vigilator wrong as well, with Melta Bombs it should be 105 points. I'd also like some more info on what each unit is doing and what not. Do you have a the Recon Squad in the Explorator? Are they infiltrating with the Vigilator? What's your answer for enemy armor if your Spartan gets immobilized (I still suggest putting it down to a Land Raider Proteus Carrier)? Astartes Consul
Thanks for the thoughts guys, some good stuff to consider. Quite a few questions can be answered with 'Because I have the unit / really want to paint one' . This is not the way for competitive list building I know, but then I'm here for fun as well. The updated list is at the bottom of this post. +++ On 2/27/2023 at 4:13 PM, WolfLogic said: I personally don’t really see why you’re taking the Spartan, I feel like a Land Raider Proteus Carrier would be sufficient, and a bit less hard at 2k points. The Spartan is there because I am halfway through building one and it has room for the whole squad. But I do agree it is quite extra for 2,000 points. If i drop it down to a normal Land Raider and cut the number of Terminators, I save 200ish points right there. Vexilla for Jetbikes is a good shout, have dropped that in. And a Rhino for one of the Tac Squads. Tempted by a Sicaran Venetor for extra anti-tank with the leftover points / because it is in plastic. Gone the full Artificer Armour / Vox / Scanner / Banner on the Tac Squads partly out of habit from 1.0 and party because I want to maximise utility from them and the Augury Scanner in particular seems key to that. I could probably drop the Banner from the Squad in the Rhino that the Delegatus will sit with I guess? Good spot. In terms of roles etc. I was thinking Inflitrat the Recon Marines ith the Vigilator. Armour is Spartan and Proteus combined, as my thinking is that that many Lascanons should be enough at 2,000pints? Not sure how the Rhino for one of the Tac squads went missing but yes, I had planned to include one which I now have! You're right about the extra level of thought required to exploit the +1 BS. Again, hadn't put massive amounts of thought into that as you can tell. A twin-autocanon or assault cannon Contempor might work for this and provide some good anti-infantry I guess? +++ XIII LEGION - [1,780pts] Warlord Trait: Bloody Handed HQ Legion Delegatus - [95] - Power Fist, Bolt Pistol, Melta Bombs. One problem here, the rulebook states that a unit containing no more than 5 models may take a Land Raider Proteus Carrier, if you go over the 5-man squad you have to take a Spartan. 3 hours ago, Astartes Consul said: Legion Vigilator Consul - [105] - Master-Crafted Nemesis Bolter, Melta Bombs Also I was wrong about it being an extra 10 points here as the Vigilator comes with Melta Bombs stock, I believe it should only be 95 points.
