Hopefully a quick, dumb beginner question on vehicles in combat - 30K

Hey all :-)

Firstly, apologies if this has been asked and answered before! I did a search before posting but couldn’t seem to see anything! Feel free to point me to a previous thread if it has been addressed before :-)

Alright, question is can a vehicles fight back in combat (and if so, with what stats as vehicles don’t have attacks or strength listed)?

Exact situation was a mate and I were playing a game last night and his troops charged my Kratos. After his attacks, we were completely lost as to what to do next!

We worked out that it should have WS1 (as it wasn’t immobilised - pg 210) but had no idea on how many attacks or at what strength.

Should this be the same as the ramming rules (i.e. D6 auto hits at S half of front armour - pg 204) or do vehicles just not fight back at all (or maybe they shoot defensive weapons in combat?)?

I assume they must be able to fight in some way as page 210 talks about what to do if a vehicle wins the combat which seems kinda redundant if they can’t fight :-P

I’ve been over the rule book in every area that seems to make sense multiple times, checked the faq as well as did a quick google search but can’t seem to find a definitive answer.

Thanks so much in advance!

Regular vehicles like tanks and such cannot fight in combat. They just sit there and get smacked, that’s why real world tank doctrine has always suggested they be supported by infantry. If you’ve got enemy troops crawling all over your tank it’s frequently bad news for the crew.

Ramming is only in your own movement phase, and defensive weapons fire is represented by the Overwatch reaction, if that’s where you choose to spend your reaction allowance.

I don’t have the Liber Mechnicum to hand, but I assume the reference to vehicles winning combat is probably in reference to Knights, who I think are vehicles, but have additional rules for fighting in combat.

Ah perfect! That makes sense and thank you so much!

Yeah the main rule book mentioning what to do if a vehicle wins combat was really throwing me off! Plus everything I read / watched just completely skipped over what happens when it’s the vehicles turn in combat :-P

Thank you :-D
