Thanks jbaeza. I was just wondering if they had set names like the angels of Vengeance have the raptor wing and dread wing and the angels of redemption have the red wings but I like the sound of creating my own names for them. I'll have a think.

Of course! If it’s any inspiration, I went with the Lion Guard and Iron Guard for my elite companies, with my chapter masters personal retinue being the Legion Guard (all references to chapter name)

you could also reach for the hexagrammaton and go Iron wing, storm wing, or fire wing

I am aware that some Unforgiven Chapters do have alternative heraldry for their First and Second companies, or at the very least alternative names.

  • Angels of Redemption call their first two companies Redwings
  • Angels of Vengeance have the Dreadwing (not to be confused with the Legion-era Dreadwing) and Raptorwing

Now, you could come up with something suitable ending in -wing, or go another route entirely. My homebrew Chapter, the Angels of Shadow, has the Blade Dominion and Saurian Knights due to influence from their homeworld.

Being a Second Founding Chapter, the Angels of Absolution would have a greater tie to the Legion of old, so may reuse or repurpose Legion titles and names. Instead of the whole company being the Deathwing, perhaps the first Chapter Master only had a single squad of Companions so the Company would as a whole be called the Companions. Another angle could be that, as the title for the Deathwing commander (voted-lieutenant) was Deathbringer so the company may be called Deathbringers.

The First Founding book mentions they may use the other names of the wings from 30k to represent the first/second companies, so you could call them some combo of the Firewing, Dreadwing, Stormwing and Ironwing.

I don’t remember where I came across this, but I distinctly remember around the 4th edition era, the AoA were going to have their 1st and 2nd companies named the Wardens and the Shriven, respectively. A pre-print of our codex got leaked (before the artwork was in the book), and at that point the blurb about the AoA had that in the description. Then when the codex was released, those names were omitted and just called 1st and 2nd.
