Burni
So I want to get the Ork army I have built and mostly primed, all painted up. I'd like to do the skin in a goblin green colour and then wash it with Biel Tan or something similar. I have citadel warboss green and I like the finished test model I did with it, but it's not very opaque and needed a good few coats. I haven't explored other paint manufacturers but seems like now is a good time to do so. So I'm looking for a similar colour that has good finish and is hopefully more opaque? Do any fraters have some suggestions I can try? Grotsmasha
Honestly, your best bet may be to grab a can of Army Painters Goblin Green Spray Primer. It is a good colour match but I don't like the finish of Army Painter colour primers. They dry too glossy which means when you paint details over the top, they rub off very easily. I find the best solution is to apply Warboss Green over a mid-grey primer. This is closer in tone and I find 2 coats are usually enough to get decent coverage. I use Halfords grey car primer and it works pretty well. Huh, I've used several of their sprays, but primarily Wolf Grey and Angel Green, and didn't have that issue. BUT a big caveat is, they were commissioned pieces and didn't play with them, however I do use Munitorum Varnish on all gaming pieces, so it does knock back any bad shine and prevent paint rubbing off. The same would apply for a Matte Varnish too. Solution Firedrake Cordova Posted March 9, 2023 Solution Share Posted March 9, 2023 Warboss Green is a Layer paint, so it's designed to be a bit translucent, unfortunately. If the issue is purely coverage, would mixing one of the similarly-toned Base paints into it to increase coverage be a viable option? Most of the green Base paints are darker, so you'd end up with a darker colour overall, but that could end up working to your advantage if used the mixed coat as the base/shadows, and then went over it with Warboss Green excluding the recesses? I don't think any of the green Contrast paints leave a solid enough colour to be used for a similar purpose? Looking at other companies, Vallejo Game Colour, Coat D'Arms, Army Painter or InStar Nostalgia 88's all have a Goblin Green (yes, they all have the same name!). Battlin' Barrow Gaming did a 3-part(!) comparison of paints trying to find something similar to old Goblin Green, with all of them having about the same coverage.
