Inquisitor_Lensoven
They’re still technically human with human brains, so I imagine they must need sleep so that whatever portions of their human brains remains can rest, refresh, and possibly heal, but has it ever been mentioned or stated anywhere in lore? MegaVolt87
Pretty sure they just go on standby mode + low power state its not really sleep. Also There is likely more tech in a standard servitor, seems implied that the fleshy bits are like a case, most of the brain replaced/ removed as well. The ideal form is a brain jar with a robot body, where the brain retains full function for the mechanicum, unless thats changed recently. Could be wrong, but I think there was even one 40k IH guy who was just two hearts and a brain in his astartes armour, rest was tech/ robotic body. I know, but the brain needs sleep unless the my give it some Marine style implant/add on that allows the brain to operate on very little to no sleep. Arikel
Perhaps this is why most servitors are portrayed as relatively mindless? 14 minutes ago, Inquisitor_Lensoven said: I know, but the brain needs sleep unless the my give it some Marine style implant/add on that allows the brain to operate on very little to no sleep. Xin Ceithan
Intriguing question… Sleep is a complex stare that is just recently being looked into again as there seems to be a link between it’s regenerative function and related influence on stuff like risk of developing dementia. Going to / entering sleep seems to be a critical phase here as this seems to Induce a major increase of cranial fluid exchange, which removes waste and probably increase tissue repair. Going to sleep is sort of having a “brainwash” As I understand it, what remains of the human brain in a servitor is mostly either “Disc space” to inscribe routines and function and using existing neural ways for things like motion, body stability, audio/ visual reception and the like. So they probably would have little need for more advanced functions of sleep like REM sleep and the like which (for all we know) mainly addresses higher brain functions. So in a “basic” servitor you might not necessarily “need” sleep (or at least full sleep cycles) but you’d probably keep / make use of the basic regenerative processes if possible to ensure a longer shelf life of the “harddrive”if you will. Given the state of 40K technology, I’d not assume it as a basic requirement, though.. maybe they just flush the brain drives by pumps and artificial fluids every other maintenance cycle? Magos Takatus
My gut instinct is that as this is 40k, no, they probably don't get sleep, the Tech Priests probably don't care enough about the condition of their servitors since they can just replace the wetware of a servitor with a new "volunteer" when they need to. Perhaps a Magos Genator may see merit in optimising the biological processes of their servitors to keep them operating more efficiently for longer but as is always the case in 40k I imagine "it depends". Jukkiz
Warhammer 40.000 Darktide has pretty lore fitting quotes from medicae servitors atleast: Can you take me with you? Please? I am so lonely. Pieces of my mind are floating away. Please help. Please. I cannot dream. I know only waking nightmare. I am not as functional as I was. I feel myself falling apart. I always thought this was odd. I guess servitors used for more complex tasks end up having less of them carved away, so they can end up being more lucid?
