I want to get back into playing Imperial Guard which I haven't touched in years and I'm a bit at a loss as to how a successful IG list looks and what I should bring, so I was to get some critiques on this list I made and get a better sense of what direction I should follow regarding this faction.

I love Russes and I want focus on that while also bringing enough support so that they don't get hard countered, the idea is that the chimera and Sentinels are there to screen and take objectives while the six Russes get to work. I've been thinking if I should swap the Sentinels for bullgryn and load two chimera with them or just walk alongside the Tanks  but I don't know.

Thanks!

A vanquisher TC instead of the punisher cannon and then give him Tank Ace Vet commander-Expert Sharpshooter. It won't single handedly win you battles but its a nice tool to deal with some tougher, higher invul stuff.

Knight of Piety doesn't have much use making a random Russ harder to kill.

Consider dropping a couple sponson sets(and knight of piety tank ace) and getting a couple commissars to ride in the chimera. It'll give you more officers for our auto 15 "Inflexible Command" secondary.

Never been much of a fan of Armored Sentinels so no feedback there.

I would swap the Cadians for regular infantry giving you access to heavy weapons.  The grenade launcher just doesn't help much IMO, and a lascannon or missile launcher will get work done for no additional points.   I agree with Mertbl about finding points for Commissars.

Im wanting to do a similar idea with battle tanks doing the work while the boots on the ground are more for screening and holding positions. I went full on Infantry squads with heavies and instead of your 4 LMs and 2 TCs I went 2 LMs, 1 TC, and 2 Dorns...T9 is not to be underestimated. My TC is doing what @mertbl said with the vanquisher + Vet Commandeer + Sharpshooter. He also has a lascannon instead of HB due to better use with Sharpshooter.

I went a couples steps in a different direction though and added a couple Enginseers, a Commissar, then 3 Hellhounds as distraction cruise missiles that fly up the board immediately.

Of course im not using points for Chimeras as I hate all transports in the game with the exception of Devilfish.

But with the announced of 10th being a complete change up all this might be scrapped in a few months so theres that.

Welcome back to the front, soldier!

You'll find your lasgun, flak armour, fatigues and primer over with the quartermaster.

As for your list, lots of armour can always be fun and has the potential to do a lot of work. The Sentinels and infantey gives you some mobility as well, which you definitely need. Tanks aren't slow, but they're big and can be move-blocked.

I wouldn't worry so much about fine-tuning specific loadouts. That's something you figure out with some games in. Similar to whether you want more special weapons or some heavy weapons. Unless you're diving into highly competitive matches right away, the difference are often not that big.

That said, the main thing your list seems to be lacking is infantry orders. So Regimental and Prefectus. Your tanks are covered and one of the TCs can support the infantry a bit, but that's probably not enough, especially once you've spread out a bit. A Command Squad with a Master Vox can do tremendous work for you there, and also helps with secondary objectives.

Orders are the thing that takes a Guard unit from mediocre average joe to hardened, deadly specialist. You always want to have sufficient access to them.
