There’s some great ones but my personal favourites are The Khan and Guilliman.

The Khan’s portrait really captures the idea of motion just waiting to be unleashed. Guilliman’s looks like he’s someone who is carrying the weight of genuinely trying to make the new imperium a force for good (or at least better than the alternative).

I also like the Lion’s portrait, it’s much better than the new 40K look for him which may as well be titled “Old man Johnson, the scooby doo villain who runs the haunted amusement park.”

Actually, I have to say that the Corax portrait never sat well with me personally. He looks like some washed up old rock musician that never made it but still sports the same fashion/hair style as when he was a young man.

Really like G-man (see shades of Mark Strong), Pert and the Lion

Nitpicks:

Fulgrim - too unhinged, crazy eyes

Ferrus - looks like drunk Uncle Bob at the Christmas party

Russ - didn't expect his features to be so...pointy, was expecting a squarer jaw

Mortarion - his face doesn't hint at his stolid resilience and strength to me. Yeah, he can look sallow-skinned, wrinkled or sunken-cheeked, but more robust facial structure would have worked better with him

Sanguinius - reminds me too much of the prince in Disney's Beauty & the Beast

Khan - expected him to look more Mongol or Central Asian, as Wright's work draws upon those cultures so deeply...too much of a GoT Khal Drogo clone

The rest are all solid.

Likes:, these are all excellent

Magnus ( gives off a real vibe)

Leman Russ

The Lion ( I agree with Markosian, much better than the new 40K look)

Jaghatai Khan

Alpharius ( looks superbly detailed in that armor)

Guilleman ( feels accurate)

Angron- Superb look

Dislikes

Sanguinius ( looks a bit silly and the short curly hair is not at all how I imagine him, he has been much better portrayed, like on the cover of " Echoes"  )

Corax- Just looks way too grimy old, unkempt, not how I imagine the character at all.

Fulgrim- I agree , not how I imagine him, should be more of an angelic look with a demonic side.

Honestly, I think this is the best depiction of Sanguinius's head in art. Every other thing makes his face look less than angelic, but the sketch here actually shows an angelic beauty.

It reminds me of two depictions I have seen of St. Michael. One is on the cover of a book of Angels I have (that is just general lore taken from all sorts of sources), and the other is from a depiction of him on a prayer card (Icon's of him are inbetween the two). The one on the cover has long, flowing hair. The one on the prayer card has shorter curly hair.

I actually tend to prefer the shorter, curly depiction with Sanguinius (and St. Michael), but for Sanguinius it might just be that as a whole the face is far better than all other artwork I've seen. The long hair isn't bad, and is certainly more accurate to his portrayals, though.

Lol, I was thinking he looked more like Conan the Barbarian in the older artwork but what you said does kinda fit xD

The Khan's portrait just looks like they took a sketch of Ming the Merciless and added a topknot to it.  Corax just flat out looks dirty, same with Curze, but you get that impression with his madness.  The only thing about Dorn's is that there was an artist on this forum that did a portrait of him with a rather nice moustache, and I think the portrait would have been improved with it honestly. To this day that moustache is still in my mental image of Dorn

I initially though Jason Momoa, but now can't get Ming out of my head

Also that comment about Corax looking like a faded glamrocker...that's also gonna stick. Still like it more than the Khan's though

I think mustachios always look stupid and am glad that Dorn doesn't have it. Wouldn't fit his lore at all to add decorstions to his face.

When I look at Ranns model I can only chake my head in disbelief that they made him look like a meme.
