b1soul
Similar to the Primarchs thread, which really tickle your fancy, which are underwhelming...feel free to explain, share your views...any thoughts on the lore and/or rules behind each character? Sadly, seems a lot of these guys are missing Remembrancer portraits/sketches PART ONE: Special characters rom the opening trilogy Betrayal, Massacre, and Extermination (phew, that was quite a few characters, will list those from the later black books soon) Shabran Darr (WE) Rylanor (EC) Tarvitz (EC) Crysos Morturg (DG) Durak Rask (DG) Maloghurst (SoH) Khârn (WE) Eidolon (EC) Typhon (DG) Castrmen Orth (IH) Autek Mor (IH) Mawdrym Llansahai (NL) Sevatar (NL) Cassian Dracos (S) Erebus (WB) Kor Phaeron (WB) Erasmus Golg (IW) Kyr Vhalen Armillus Dynat (AL) Exodus (AL) Sigismund (IF) Alexis Pollux (IF) Alvarex Maun (RG) Kaedes Nex (RG) Abaddon (SoH) and Loken (Luna Wolves) Edited April 4, 2023 by b1soul Gorgoff 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/378143-forge-world-special-characters-in-review/ Share on other sites
SkimaskMohawk
Sevatars second portrait from Crusade is one of the greatest imo. Spoiler By the end of 1st I think he was also one of the most busted characters you could take. Upgraded to 2+ armour and Ap2 he could kill basically any non eternal warrior character with ease, and came with the extremely strong Master of Ambush warlord trait. With his power up he could tank an amazing amount of firepower for the unit, not to mentions what hitting and wounding on 2s with full rerolls and possible instant death does for his output. Not quite the full pencil sketch or the slightly too clean portraits some of the other books have. Zardu Kayak’s burning eyes are particularly spooky. It's a shame that FW kinda skimped on these "Remembrancer" character portraits. After running through, I'd say less than half of the non-primarch characters have them. Setting aside personal taste, the portraits are overall quite high quality. Hungry Nostraman Lizard
I miss the illustrations as well. They added a ton of historical character, and evoked thought (when was this drawn, who drew it and where? etc) Raldorans' model is still such a disappointment. I think it's been enough time, and I've seen enough paint jobs to say that the underlying model isn't good. It was a rather mediocre model....and the official paintjob meant it leaned toward bad. I'm a big fan of dynamic poses unless a static pose better expresses the "soul" of the character, e.g. immovable Rogal Dorn. Wiping off his sword with a cloth was an odd pose selection for the likes of Raldoron. It's likely meant to highlight his calm and prowess: an after-battle pose indicating he had almost casually dispatched his foes. Still, too static for my taste. Compare these two The former much better conveys "Raldoron on the battlefield" to me The sword-wiping pose just doesn't work with heroic scale: www.lillegendstudio.com/wp-content/uploads/IMG_6908.jpg I was also a bit flabbergasted by the awkward spear grip of the otherwise impressive Sanguinius model Edited April 6, 2023 by b1soul Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/378143-forge-world-special-characters-in-review/#findComment-5930202 Share on other sites

Xenith
Yea, that's the right grip on a spear if you want to keep hold of it and jab it, reverse grip if you think he's javelinning it. b1soul
Probably shouldn't have said "awkward" The javelin grip just looks aesthetically more pleasing (to me)...would be more visually striking when combined with the Great Angel falling upon its prey (again imo). The historically/militarily correct grip just doesn't look as good here.
