I’ve got what could be the last tournament I can attend before 10th drops and want to have a good end to the edition with the Black Legion. What do you guys think to the list? Previously I’ve run a couple of predators although fancy a change and try a couple of Wardog to hold backfield and try popping a tank or some heavy infantry with their damage 3 auto cannons (also makes grind them down a good option to gain a CP) I’m thinking of Despoil Doninions and Long War as two secondaries I’m always likely choose and the third be flexiable depending on match up.

thanks in advance

Almost wondering if some cheap auto cannon Havocs, and a unit of melta bikers could take the place of the war dogs. I feel like the war dogs will be an easy target for anything shooty that can match their range, and the 2D3 autocannons might get underwhelming for the points. If you’re rolling 1s and 2s you’re paying nearly 2.5 times the points of an auto cannon Havoc squad. You could even add a few possessed with the leftover points.

Edit: I take that back, the 3 damage does make a difference…but still, seems like you might get more value out of some faster units that don’t degrade like bikers, or even a spawn for warptime usage.

Hmm, good point. On that note, I saw a winning tournament list recently that had lascannons and heavy chainaxes on each of the legionaries squads since they are currently free…might be an interesting option. But then you lose some anti-horde from the chaincannons. Would one dog and one predator be a bad idea?

I had thought about putting a lascannon in a legionaire squad instead of the missile launcher and keeping it back on the backfield objective. But then how effective is one lascannon going to be?

I’d be tempted to run two rather than one of each incase the other is destroyed. The wardogs can move quick and are obsec, where as the predators can punch through armour but rarely benefit from the +1 to hit from the black legion trait.

For the tournament I went to they worked really well. I faced 2 armies that either had 1 vehicle or none and they did well at hold back field objectives and deleting a unit sometimes one each a turn (depending on how well I rolled). They struggled against shooting infantry squads that had invulnerable saves in the game against sisters but did well against blood angels assault marines and sanguinary guard. They didn’t do too bad against vehicles but they struggled to pop one each a turn.
