Been wanting to have a more unique themed army that has some sort of polearm and/or shield and isn’t part of the regular army line-up

Then I learned about successor chapters and thought they will help with this a bit.

I quite like Minotaur lore and thought I’d try to build a good list and then get the models.

I’m still pretty new to 40K tabletop battles so the list might not be very focused …or functional even but any help is appreciated!

Couple things I’m not sure on:
1. Is grey hunter a decent midfield objective holder.. between this and blood claw/sky claw or even incursor/assault intercessor…hoping to have something that can shoot while on objective and doesn’t fold when charged and can at least fight back

2. What are some good secondaries for a melee list…thinking warrior pride might be an easy one not sure on the other tho

3. A 7 man termie squad is it enough damage and survivability for this type of deep strike team?

4. The list lacks tanks…is that an issue? Really wanted to fit a whirlwind in there for indirect fire but no room….

So plan is have infiltrator sit at back objective, the speeders to cap points or push opponent off points, the wolf guard move up the middle buffed by chaplain, termie and moloc for deep strike back line smash, then the 2 dreads will go support up the board wherever needed, slow grey hunters will move toward speeders to hold points and free the speeder up for some melts tank busters

Cyber wolf is just filler and I guess moloc’s pet attack dog scout thing…and the voids man is purely filler for 40 points for maybe some distraction? It was either this or another model of terminator haha

Anyway…trying to create a competitive/semi-competitive list. Aside from really wanting Moloc in the list anything else can probably changed, so feel free to if need!!!

Hey, welcome to the hobby. If you stick with it, it can last a lifetime and is great fun.

When picking a faction, having an attachment to the lore or models helps a great deal. You should know that 40k in particular is a very fluid game, and units rise and fall in relevance as new books are released and rules are adjusted.

You mentioned the Minotaurs. They are a really cool chapter, however their rules are quite limited currently. Moloc is still a brilliant model to this day, I actually own the kit myself.

There is something you really need to consider as you plan your army - The new edition of 40 is going to come out in two months.

All the rules we have now, and the factions we are running and the lists we are making - this is all about to change significant. From what we understand, faction rules are going to be tied to specific detachments, and all the Forgeworld units will be getting updated rules to go with the edition from day one. The reason I mention that 2nd point is that if you're keen on the Minotaurs and Moloc, there will probably be new and exciting ways to build a list that includes him.

Or, judging by your list, you might be more interested in a Space Wolves force. Either way, really consider the faction you'll want to have as the new edition approaches.

I didn’t know the 10th Ed will come out only in 2 month hmm good point I shall hold off for now until I see the new rules.

I’m not that into the wolves haha just enjoys Minotaur and Asterion lore more specifically. Rare to have a model with a shield and spear :). Maybe I’ll just build a custom moloc while waiting for the new rules for now.

Nothing wrong in buying the base models like infiltrators and possibly the speeders. I would wait on the terminators as assault termies will likely get a new kit although there is nothing wrong with the old kit.

We can hope Asterlon and Hecaton will remain viable in the new rules as they are really good beat sticks.
