twopounder
Azrael has an idea for the next model I should paint... Just finishing up the reaver titan builds and I'll get back to DA. I ordered 2x deathwing assault boxes, an old deathwing squad (I never made a command squad), the new Azrael and a separate Lion so I don't have to open the limited box. I've never painted the old hq minis so I really want to finally finish them after 20 years. Yup, thought about getting a German Shepherd and naming him Belial. twopounder
So, I was taking stock of the hq models I had queued to paint. I realized I had stacked up quite a few. But the lion has awoken, so I thought it would be a great time to crack open the vault and see what was inside. It appears I've been sitting on a squad of Azraels and a duplex of Ezekiels. And apparently not one but three cyphers have been under their noses! I also came across a model from the very first squad I painted. There were even a few models that appear to have gotten lost on the rock. I thought I'd be kind and let them out. There is more in the vault, but can't let all the secrets out so fast. twopounder
The HQ models are removed from packaging and cleaned of (hopefully) all mold remover. I also have some progress on the flying stands for LI. This is just a prototype and I'm going to hopefully find some shorter antenna and I'll use a heavier acrylic base. But the concept appears to be sound. It uses the same tension ball system as the standard base, so I can make them bank as well The antenna are a bit flimsy when fully extended, so I really need to find a much shorter version that will work. But overall, I like the concept. I'll see about making a few more and put them on a table. Interrogator Stobz
Wow that's really tall. Awesome! I bought some 4mm x 100mm perspex rods that put planes near the same height as a Warlord. That seem high enough and is still a bit stable. The magnet is a great idea! Raziel-TX
Nice idea. Bet those would work great for some kind of CAS diorama. Bonus points for those posters. twopounder 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/378316-painting-log-stretching-my-legs/page/3/#findComment-6023474 Share on other sites

twopounder
I shifted to working on Heresy stuff (and have a way too big backlog now). I'm experimenting with the colors and how I want to do the legion. I had the idea to test UV reactive paint for parts of the model that technically glow. Its super hard to get a picture while holding my phone and the UV light, so I'll get a better picture later, but the effect is interesting. I think I may see if I can find a higher quality pain, as this stuff separated really badly. Though I did figure out how to do some basic glazing, it was ROUGH to work with. There is definitely an interesting effect when its under the UV light. I have more powerful UV lights to put under my display case for testing as well. I doubt it would be strong enough to really show on a board, but it could come through if they are in a building or shaded. I'll keep messing with it and see if I can make it cleaner. twopounder
Making slow progress on the 30k 1st Legion, but doing some interesting experiments. Hard to capture with phone camera because it doesn't let much light in. You can see it glow without the UV light, but I can't adequately capture it with my phone unless I use it. It has a dark glow, very similar to CGI stuff that has been released. Raziel-TX
Those swords look pretty darn cool. Whats the plan with the UV paint? UV light in a display case for them? Also, welcome back to the Chapter and the Rock. Thanks! UV paint is going to be on anything that glows - optics, screens, power weaponts, etc. I actually have another material that glows for a while after being exposed to any UV light source, so working that in as well. twopounder
I setup a camera rig to get better pictures. Still needs some work, but came out okay for the moment. Unfortunately I accidentally glued one of the sergeant heads onto the wrong body. Woops. I did take a couple with the cellphone though You can see a bit of the eye glow here Interrogator Stobz, Helias_Tancred, Grotsmasha and 1 other 4 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/378316-painting-log-stretching-my-legs/page/3/#findComment-6130353 Share on other sites
twopounder
I'm digging deep for the HH 3.0. I have parts soaking to strip the paint for my command squad and veteran assault squads, but in the meantime I'm restoring some old relics of another life. I do have a predicament. I normally do acrylic bases, but these aren't compatible with magnetic cases unless I custom make them. That would be about $6000 - $7000 for equipment and I don't feel like getting back into the lasering business just at the moment. The normal bases are boring, but I'm not confident that glued sand will hold if I remove the magnetized model - it might just rip up from the base. Resin bases are really expensive. Weighing options, but I don't like the way my customized bases turned out. Maybe I'll clean them and just reduce the debris.
