so info is still relatively light on the ground but thought be interesting to start a new fluff discussion thread saying as there is new developments. firstly we have seen that nids won big out of kryptmans gambit and nids lost the battle for baal but what did they gain in the process. new genetics added to the hive and apparently previously seen strain has had a come back. von ryans leaper being a call back til the 3rd and 4th edition codex's seems to show nids can reuse old ideas and bring things back(which iirc the only currently discontinued model is the  red terror?)and there are several named but not in 40k nids models (ones from epic and armour cast?) which could also be on the cards at some point. shrikes are also apparently making a comeback but then there is the new brain bugs too...

and as for galactic developments hive fleet leviathan(again? sigh) is attacking everywhere from the galactic rim inwards... thats a big jump in fleet activity. im not a fan that its predominately leviathan and not loads of different fleets like thats a lot of biomass from somewhere  which raises more origin questions and not quite killing but nearly the running from something theory and raises more of the where they coming form  all over the place.

i also had an amusing thought... nids consumed a fair bit of blood angels dna... gains black rage and sees horus from a nid pov... sees eye of terror and abbaddon... new target locked... horussssssss

and other thoughts and conjecture/worldbuilding ?

Leviathan being used doesn't surprise me. I said it before elsewere but I suspect GW is trying to give every faction their own "posterboys". The vanilla option, so to speak. SM have Ultramarines, Guard have Cadians, Sisters of Battle get the Martyred Lady, Orks have Goffs, Votann have Thurian League, and now Tyranids get Leviathan.

For the various articles and the videos posted by GW, the tyranid invasion has new species never seen before so hopefully this means the codex expands info about all the playable units to refesh the memories of people about what their roles in the war/hive fleet/swarm are. Would be my dream book to be a version of Xenology with only Tyranid bioforms and their biology and have it translated in my country. I loved the Mortrex's entry in 9th edition and would be awesome see others reports like it.

Some kind of taskforces called Solblades are the defences being used while the Primarchs and many of the IoM's forces are busy elsewhere, so curious to know what those are and how they're going to slow down Leviathan's advance beyond killing synapse creatures.

One thing to ponder about would be if GW will be bold enough to allow the tyranids to reach the Solar System and even Terra itself. Genestealer Cults are active there, but don't know if they have been erradicated yet.

One wish for me would be to see Swarmlord being a badass. Rebuild his reputation and make him outmanouver some of the defenders by coordinating the swarms in unexpected ways. If he could get an awesome updated model to go along with it would be ideal. I don't think it would happen on the launch, but later in the edition with a campaign about Terra's invasion would be the cherry on top.

All of the plot developments for now are only speculation and until the Core Rulebook and the Codex arrive I don't think we will know more. We have one more week left to wait. The days don't move fast enough!

of course though i liked that nids changed their fleet preferance in the beginnings. that kraken and behemoth both had a swing at the imperium but leviathan has now had how many swings where id like one of the other fleets to get a big swing somewhere, if even say a gorgon fleet got a push on the wolves or some such. will be interesting to see where the tendrils do focus now after baal... looks at dark angels...

terra.. one day... probably at the same time that a black crusade nears it and a tau expansion and a waaghh etc...

The thing I'm most curious about for now is the direction GW is going to go with Tiamet and their Tyranid Continent. I'm almost certain they will leave it unresolved for now, but I just hope isn't some kind of copout at the end.

Leviathan getting two Tyrannic Wars is pretty dissapointing, but I just hope the authors of GW in charge of the narrative give us something different beside the entry point.

is that the planet where the nids are sending resources  and defending? if so odds on it being a fair bit of new nid development... may be something to do with the new floaty brain...

Yes. The Hive Fleet stays mostly in the system, but goes out to obtain new biomass for their construct. One of the many Genestealer Cults also sends some of their own to the planet.

The tyranids of Tiamet are more armoured than normal, so their mission seems to dedicate themselves to defend and finish the Continent in the planet called Ziaphoria for some unknown purpouse.

I think Leviathan getting the push probably has something with GW seeing their colour scheme easy for beginners, same as Ultramarines. I bet other hive fleets will be mentioned in some fashion.

What would be interesting is if they noticed hive fleets teaming up.

Where was the Tiamet lore published? I wouldn't mind reading more on that
