Hello to my fellow frater! Since the World Eaters subforum is pretty much dead, with the last reply on May 12, I thought I'd run a post here. I just wanted to share some of my finished models, and to help inspire myself to build and paint some more. I've been slowly working on these over the past year, since a friend of mine convinced me to come back to 40k around last May after quitting in 6th edition because of how much fun I was having with allies rules.

I have a full time job, wife, and kid, so time for building painting is very sporadic and slow, but I make do. My painting skills are nowhere on the level of some people here (holy crap Skalatrax's berzerkers look amazing) but I've been improving with time, and I think I'm at a decent TT level. My dudes are mostly kitbashes of old CSM models, and Forge World upgrade kits/Rampagers. I really tried to make some unique models as Chaos is all about each trooper cobbling together what he can, giving the force a ragtag appearance. I'm old school so things aren't touching the table until they are painted and based, which gives me impetus, but man it takes a while.

Some dudes below:

Pit Champion Zarad, Chaos Lord on Jugger. He is angry because that jugger seat rides WAY up his crack

Vortokh the Headsman, MoE. He is angry because that axe weighs like 80 lbs, and if he ever puts it down, the voices in his head yell at him

Looks Good, I feel ya on the Job+Wife+kid part , you do what you can when you can... points to you for getting stuff done!

I cannot tell from the pics but are you using a wash on the armour ?,

Angry guy with wrong lens prescription is the best dad joke of the lot

Cheers, M.

spelling :-P

Dad jokes are the name of the game man. Mine is still too little to get them, but I’ve been saving them up for when she gets a little older.

Yeah, I use watered nuln oil. I’ve found that when photographing indoors, the iPhone camera had a very stark “florescent light” effect to it which makes them look brighter and more orange than they are in reality.

It’s like looking at your reflection in a very brightly lit public bathroom mirror and suddenly seeing how blotchy and uneven your skin looks

It can definitely be a challenge to get painting done when life wants to get in the way (and family are definitely capable of being a pretty big - but worthwhile! - time-sink)!

They're  definitely better than "miniature factory grey camouflage"

Thanks for the feedback guys! Next on the chopping block (heh) are 3 Exalted Eightbound. Just got them built, so will be painting next. The kits are good, and I love that I could assemble them without chest armor, giving them a bare chested single shoulderpad gladiator look. On the other hand, dynamically posed models like this always requires a little gap filling, and the poses will start looking repeated if I get more, but oh well, that’s a bridge I’ll cross later.

Anyway they are *very* angry because they are still unpainted, and they just got kicked out of Segmentum Obscurus Powerlifting Championship for testing positive for performance enhancing demons.

Update! Finished the Exalted Eightbound, and a converted Khârn. Not very happy with how the 8B turned out. I built them without the power armor crop tops because I wanted the bare chested single shoulderpad gladiator look; but I didn't have a proper recipe for painting bare flesh, which led to a bit of experimentation with mixed results. I tried drybrushing, and several different layers of paint with different water to paint mixes, and, well, they look fine at a TT distance, but they are what they are. Good news is I think I have an algorithm for it down which I used for Khârn's bare arm.

Khârn on the other hand, I'm much happier with. I don't like the Khârn model, so I was looking for an alternative, because not having Khârn in a World Eaters army seems wrong. Happened across an unpainted kitbashed model on eBay, and snapped it up. I did not build this model, only painted it. Body seems to be Haarken Worldclaimer, with an AOS Khorne Warrior head, a CSM plasma pistol, and a chainaxe of unknown provenance, maybe third party. I like the model much more than the official GW Khârn, and while converted, I think it's very obvious who it's supposed to be, down to the bare arm with a chain wrapped around it.
