Kinda hate it, I get that it’s based on the existing box, but it doesn’t look particularly fun to play, total lack of anti monster and anti tank, not even any decent anti elite, aggressors would have to do incredibly heavy lifting.

I also hate the total lack of red thirst

Dunno, I think this is just kind of a gimmick designed to make it more straightforward for begginners to get into games. I think it will do that quite well, but for existing players I don't see much appeal.

Boarding Actions looked like it had some real potential as the basis of a small points game mode in 40K proper, and I am wondering if they have plans to bring it, or a close quarters game mode similar to it, forward.

Apparently boarding control is still compatible.

im sad about combat patrol, I think I’d just play 500pt main games.

The core boarding action rules are compatible but the detachments need an overhaul - some of the enhancements don’t make sense in 10th and I’m not clear how/if attaching leaders to a unit would work. But that’s probably a discussion for a different thread.

I have to say I'm not interested at all. Like, I can't even stress myself to have a look at the rules to be honest. The "play what's in the box" approach feels like it would get boring very soon. Normally I don't play the same list twice. At least I'm switching a unit or two from game to game.

Now if those combat patrols would have been planned all along for this and it would be a fluffy, bespoken selection of units, that would be something else. Maybe throw in some missions to see how many rounds you can last against an overwhelming force or how much kills you can make in a given time. Something like that.

You can do this yourself though, don't need gw to write the mission for you!

Looking at the rules, I'm a fan of the format in general. The stripped back enhancements, secondaries and strats take some of the mental load out of the game allowing me to think about tactics. And yea, they might not be able to take on a dreadnought easily, but isn't that part of the challenge? I think they boosted the Smite from the Libby, and you can give it devastating wounds I think to allow for a potential 18MW in one turn.

To be fair, the BA box was pretty naff for us already, and there's a limit to how much they can tweak it via rules. The libby sending out hazardous smites from inside the impulsor and having it be ablative wounds for any hazard fails is kinda fun though. With his enhancement that's D6 S6 AP-2 DD3 shooting attacks with ANTI-MONSTER 5+, ANTI-VEHICLE 5+ and devastating wounds, risk free, which isn't too shabby for taking down something big while the intercessors add some covering bolter fire. And when it dies or they need to get out, he still gives his bodyguards a 4++.

I do think painting the equivalent to the DA box red and using their rules is possibly a more BA playstyle box though; between the dread fist and the chaplain  giving +1 to wound and re-roll advance&charge on the intercessors, they're fairly decent at CC for this scale. The new leviathan CP going terminator and flamer heavy with a choppy captain feels quite BA too.

And to be honest, they've really gone back to the idea of BA being mostly codexy i.e. with tanks and shooting units as well as melee troops, rather than lists being 90% death company and sanguinary guard; I'm fine with that for fluff reasons, but obviously can understand people feeling melee and red thirst has been toned down too far.

Maybe the BA box will get re-done when they eventually release jump pack primaris assault marines.

Anything stopping us using the rules / enhancement / strats and just building an army of similar points with units we want to use instead? That's how I will approach it with my son and his friends?

probably not for friendly games, its basically roughly 500 point lists I think
