"The Emperor demands the blood of the traitors."

Despite having a long and storied past, the earliest history of the Wardens of Osse (as is the case for all 13th Founding Chapters) is shrouded in mystery. It is possible that the Chapter went by a different name initially but all official records of this have been lost to all save the Chapter itself. The first attested action of the Chapter was the subjugation of their now Homeworld (Osse III), after the previous occupants (Chaos Astartes of the Changebringers) were hunted down and slaughtered by the Wardens in the middle M37. It is suspected the Wardens of Osse were once a fleet based Chapter, but after the subjugation of Osse III the Chapter became stranded within the Irmin Sector by a localised Warp Storm for almost three Millennium.

Upon the Warp Storm abating in the early M40, Irmin Sector command immediately made contact with Segmentum Obscurus' Segmentum Fortress at Cypra Mundi. According to the initial report, those within the Warp Storm had been assailed by many Zenos threats and the Wardens had been a bulwark against them. Inquisition forces of the Ordo Hereticus did inspect the Sector over the next century but did not find the local populace or military institutions wanting in their devotion to the Emperor and His Imperium, and thus the Astartes were officially granted the right to establish a Fortress Monastery on Osse III (a formalisation of the reality on the ground). It is around this time that the colloquial name of the Wardens of Osse was officially adopted. The Sector Lord at the time heaped his praises on the Wardens of Osse's actions during their isolation, and the Wardens campaigns during this period proved to be fundamental to the Chapters identity.

Since their reintegration within the Imperium, the Wardens have taken part in many campaigns across the Galaxy, including dispatching the 3rd Company to assist in the Macharian Crusade (and the subsequent Macharian Heresy). The Wardens of Osse also played a small part in the Gothic War, where the 4th Company played a part in the destruction of the Planet Killer. At the close of M41 two Companies were present at the Fall of Cadia, most of the 2nd and all of the 5th were lost. The subsequent Great Rift isolated the survivors of the Chapter again to the Irmin Sector where they along with other native Imperial forces were mercilessly hounded by heretics, displaced Zeno's and fouler things. The Wardens did not receive any of the initial Primaris Marines, but upon re-establishing contact with the Imperium adopted the new Primaris and have begun to recuperate their shattered Chapters numbers with them. The last confirmed contact with the Chapter indicated that over 90% of the Chapter are made of Primaris Space Marines, and the surviving Firstborn commanders had Ascended.

The Wardens of Osse were relatively Codex compliant before and after Primarch Roboute Guilliman's revival and updates to it. They do not blindly assault an enemies position like more headstrong Chapters, instead they favour scouting the opposition prior to any assault, and once they've pinpointed weaknesses in their opponents defences they rapidly assault them. If a perceived weakness turns out to not be so, the leadership entrusts their Sergeants to judge the situation and not waste the lives of the Astarte's under his command. This pragmatism has been viewed as cowardice by other Chapters, but the Wardens see it as expedient to redeploy to assault another position and not throw away lives and equipment unnecessarily.

Where the Chapter deviates from the Codex Astartes is that they only have nine Companies, and each is responsible for its own recruitment. Humans that are recruited into the Chapter will spend the rest of their lives in the same Company, and as such each Company have their own Scouts & Veterans. Each Company is expected to be versatile enough to competently deal with all situations in war, but each does have it's own specialties. Two examples being the 4th Company, which is responsible for the Chapters significant Fleet, and thus are boarding specialists and have been granted the largest number of Terminator armour to assist with this. The 1st Company, whose key responsibility is the protection of the Fortress Monastery Himinborg on their nominal Homeworld Osse III, are the siege experts of the Chapter, and a demi-Company must always be present within Himinborg. The rest of the 1st will be honing their siegecraft skills where necessary. The arrival of the Primaris has changed little to this structure.

Osse III is the Homeworld of the Wardens. It is a Feudal world within the Osse Sub-sector, itself a star cluster within the Irmin Sector within the former Segmentum Obscurus. Osse III is the third of nine planetary bodies within the system, three of which are habitable. The populations culture and level of technology has not changed since the conclusion of the Horus Heresy, though evidence remains of a formerly glorious level of technology prior to the Heresy. A minor engagement of Titans is recorded during the Heresy on the planet, with victory for the Imperium, but the damage was done, and the formerly great culture had been reduced to a level of technology of pre gunpowder societies. The tribes on the planet constantly vie for resources and dominance, and are in a state of constant war, only halted by the harsh winters. This is the perfect breeding ground for Astartes recruitment, the honour-bound humans see the Astartes as Demi-Gods of war and any son taken by them is not mourned but celebrated and seen as a mark of prestige within the tribe.

The Wardens have not forgotten their history as a fleet-based chapter, and three of their nine Companies recruit from different worlds within the Sub-sector. One of these being the 4th, the fleet specialists who recruit from among the Voidborn of the Sub-sectors command position, a space port Tarnhelm. The 7th Company recruits from the Hiveworld of Myrce VI within the Sub-sector, and these are traditionally the urban fighting specialists of the Chapter. Finally the 9th Company recruits exclusively from the moon of Forge World Weyland VIII (Weyland IX). The moon is a Death World with ferocious mega-fauna, the human inhabitants having to hunt these monsters from a young age, fighting them with a variety of ranged weaponry.

First of all, let me welcome you to the Liber.

It is acceptable to provide readers with more information about the Wardens of Osse without the Administratum having access to it. While the Administratum may lack official records and knowledge of the chapter's past, you can share additional details with your readers as the creator of this homebrew chapter. This allows you to expand upon the Wardens' history and give your audience a more engaging and immersive experience.

Furthermore, I'd like to highlight the importance of balance in mystery. While having elements of secrecy and unknown origins in your chapter's history is intriguing, it's essential to strike a balance. If everything is shrouded in mystery, it can become overwhelming and dilute the sense of intrigue. By selectively revealing certain aspects and providing more concrete details about significant events, you can create a more captivating narrative that keeps readers invested in the Wardens of Osse.

In addition, you appear to have multiple narrative threads within your chapter's story, mainly centred around overburdened bureaucracy and the impact of the warp storm. While well-written chapters have multiple facets, focusing on a single tenet can be beneficial to give your narrative a clearer direction and a stronger thematic core. With some creativity, you can find ways to weave both aspects together, utilizing the overburdened bureaucracy or the warp storm as a driving force behind the chapter's struggles and development.

Remember, as the creator of this homebrew chapter, you have the power to shape their story and create a compelling and cohesive narrative. By providing more specific details, exploring the chosen themes with depth and clarity, and maintaining a balance of mystery and revelation, you can bring the Wardens of Osse to life in a way that captivates and motivates your readers.

*On a side note, all the BBCode is broken captionleft/Dropcap etc

Thank you for the response!

I'll be adding a lot more to this when I have the time to do so and will be taking what you've said on board. This Chapter will not be a massive mystery, or unbeatable conquerors of Imperial Nihilus. It's just going to be some fluff for a Chapter I'm starting to collect.

The basic concept is a historically Dark Age theme (loosely Anglo-Saxon), and the first bit of fluff to link in with my existing (models I own) Titan Legion, Guard regiment and Ad-Mech manifold. I'm aiming to eventually write fluff for the entire Sub-sector of Osse which is home to all of these Imperial factions.

The codes not working is just sad.
