Captain Idaho
I was looking at potential of a Techmarine leading a Tactical squad, with 4 Servitors attached and it did spark my interest. The Tactical squad gets a heavy weapon, the Servitors get 2 so that's 3. We're kinda playing a Black Templar sort of thing here, with 15 models in a unit, with a good chunk of chaff. Melee there are options too. The Techmarine with full Servo-harness actually gets a decent Melee potential, with a Sergeant with a power fist and then 4 Servitors with Servo-arms and the unit isn't a push over up close! The squad can still have its heavy and special weapon for the advance, whilst the unit gets a bunch of ablative wounds to boot. Let's not forget Tactical Marines get 2 attacks each now as well! When doing a heavy weapon version, the real question is just which ones? The Servitors can have 2 multi-meltas and the squad can also have a Multi-melta and melta gun, so that's actually a lot of S9 shots in actual fact. This could be powerful. Bolter death squad could be something, with 3 heavy bolters involved. Though I'd say it's not particularly efficient compared to the Multi-melta spam. The beauty of this unit is it can march up the table and hold objectives, play the numbers game, contribute offensively which won't degrade quickly beyond bolters and best of all... ...the Techmarine can still repair and buff vehicles. Bouargh
But they will need to walk, which is not really always such a big thing, especilly less problematic now that the "Heavy" do not really penalize you on the march. Other alternative is that they will have to ride into a LR variant with enough space for all the mob. Tacitus
Do Melta, and stick it in a Crusader. The Crusader is gonna have TL AssCan, and two TLStormbolters, plus a Storm Bolter or Multi-Melta - Pop Chronus in to drive, motor up dump the squad, open up, charge. Iron Father Ferrum
I'd say their best use will be holding a backfield objective, in which case the "massed heavy bolters" are the best option because they give you decent range to shoot into the midfield and you can splash a bunch of 2D shots all over any infantry that deep strike near you. Plasma or grav for the special weapon & SGT pistol options both have play for killing harder targets that get too close. CCE1981
I think the best way to add a Techmarine and attached Servitors is to a Devastator Squad. That entire unit can fit into a Drop Pod. With the Techmarine and the Sergeant the squad isn’t bad in melee either. No characters can attach to Devastator Squads for some reason. Long Fangs can get some of the Wolf characters, but for some reason Devastators get no character support (but Desolators, Hellblaster, Eradicators and so on do...) CCE1981
Shoot, yeah that is the Iron Priest attaching to Longfangs, and a Wolf Guard Pack Leader in Terminator Armor. That at least makes the Long Fangs pretty good.
