I’ve noticed that the boring city tables of 8th and 9th are being replaced more and more by better looking tables.

 

as MG says, some terrain just works better now than it did last edition, which allows for more variety.

There's definitely more options to put more then just solid ruins on the table. The 9th ed rule-set made most other pieces functionally useless, but with craters and obstacles now giving fairly easy to set up benefits, this rationale is gone. Actual line of sight blockers will still be relevant, but with indirect poised to being the next big problem (again), less of it is probably good.

 

Here's hoping tournament table layouts adjust to factor that in.
