BrainFireBob
Want my Leviathan termies to join my Deathwing. Have some old FW resin DW pads. Looking at it, think my best bet might be to cut at the shoulder/elbow and replace, but I'm looking for ideas before I do non reversible cutting. Any good resources out there? My Google-fu is proving weak on this effort. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/379326-converting-leviathan-termie-adviceopinions/ Share on other sites
DemonGSides
Old style shoulder pads seem to be running a little small compared to this new updated sculpt, so if you're planning on removing one, probably plan on removing both. I think the easiest thing to do is put two whole new arms on the guy. That way, scale stays the same across both arms, and they won't look that out of place. It's mostly the shoulderpads that you can see a real difference. Marshal Reinhard
The new arms have quite nice detailing that you can see the layered shoulder pads inside the pad. (slightly visiible from the front) There's actually some empty space in there. So another potential problem / reason you shouldn't cut them. I've opted to simply keep mine smooth and standard. Added chapter knick knacks in other ways. Maybe challange myself to some neat free hand. People who don't want to should be able to find some from a 3Printer side-gigger even sooner. My Google-fu is proving weak on this effort. I've been 3d printing some Blood Angels terminator pads for the Leviathan guys, after measuring them with a calliper, and the new pads are ~8% larger than the old ones. So old symbol pads won't quite fit over the inner shoulder, and look a little unbalanced if you only replace one. The good news is, old arms and their shoulder pads both fit on the new bodies; the pads are a touch small, but the arms themselves are the the same size. So if you cut off the leviathan shoulder pad to replace with an existing moulded/printed terminator one, you'll need to shave the shoulder width & depth down some (I'd recommend at the back, where it's concealed) so the old pad will fit, and still reveal the inner pad bit where the notch is. I'd also recommend doing both so they match size. You could cut the arm off below the shoulder, and build it back up with say greenstuff - just be aware of the front notch and what it reveals of the inner part of the shoulder. Or if you have the bitz, you can use old arms AND shoulders for both arms on the leviathan terminators and it will look fine (people have been doing it with assault terminator arms); you can also cut off the nice new storm bolters and attach them to the old arms. Or wait for 'new scale' terminator pads from 3rd parties. I've rescaled some designs for my own printer, and it wasn't super tricky. The external dimensions I used for a bare pad was 10.2 mm high (including bottom 'tab'), 11.5 mm wide, and 6.4 mm deep. That's what I'm going to do - Probably start by running a test with the old Chapter Symbol bits upscaled (by 8% you say?) and hope they match the curve of the new pads - maybe try a hot water bath, then glue them on.
