Which suggests either/both the Captain Restrictions and/or DIY Chapter Command are coming back - but it may have just been future-proofing.  I'm mainly hoping they open up the who can join what restrictions - Elite Characters Ancients/Apothecaries/Champions/Lieutenants/Judiciars joining any HQ (Libby, Chaplain, Captain) - Double HQ is probably too much. 

The trouble is that certain buffs are too strong when stacked. If you have an Apothecary and Librarian to a unit then you get a 4++/6+++ and resurrect a model every turn. This might be too strong (unless you are Dark Angels of course :rolleyes: ).

 

Similarly, stacking a Captain and Judiciar gives you the combination of free HI and First strike which is incredibly potent. A unit of Bladeguard can wreck most charging units before they even strike.

I wouldn't be surprised if each Faction got some "generic" Enhancements that were in addition to the ones that are tied to each Detachment (i.e. in the case of Space Marines, that all Space Marine Chapters get access to). If that is the case, then the Space Marine "generic" enhancements could be the old Chapter Command abilities, something like:

1 - Chapter Master (Captain only, cannot be taken if another unit in your army has the Chapter Master Key Word) -- Model gains +1W, +1A for all melee weapons (except for those with the Extra Attacks rule), and gives a free CP at the beginning of your Command Phase on a successful roller of 4+, if this model is on the battlefield (NOTE: this model is also eligible to take a second Enhancement).

 

2 - Reclusiarch (Chaplain only, cannot be taken if another unit in your army has the Reclusiarch Key Word) -- Model gains +1W and 12" aura of ignoring all negative Ld effects for all friendly Astartes around him.

 

3 - Chief Librarian (Librarian only, cannot be taken if another unit in your army has the Chief Librarian Key Word) -- Model gains +1W and unit he is leading makes Critical Hits on an unmodified roll of 5+.

 

4 - Master of the Forge (Techmarine only, cannot be taken if another unit in your army has the Master of the Forge Key Word) -- Model gains +1W and can use the "Blessing of the Omnissiah" ability on two different units each turn.

Everyone would still be limited to three Enhancements overall, so this should not be game-breaking, but could add flavor/flexibility for Astartes armies (the factions could have their own version of "generic" enhancements that any army can take, agnostic of which Detachment you picked).

 

They might do that, but I would suspect those enhancements would be "slot free" - while they add some flavor Enhancements that do take slots - like:

By Perdition's Flame! (Salamanders Only)  Add 1 to the S and AP of Flamer and/or Melta weapons equiped by this character's unit. 

 

The Black Rage:  (Blood Angels) Jump Pack Unit Only  This model's Unit can deepstrike in engagement range and counts as charging.

 

Those are just made up things - But I would hope to see some chapter flavor enhancements in the codex.
