Back with an update after over a month!  I finished the leather belts, holsters and pouches - Snakebite Leather contrast makes those a doddle  For the chest symbols I stand of gold like the Intercessors, I decided a bright metal like that wouldn't suit the Scouts' role as sneaky stealth types - so I went for white with a very light blue tinge. After that, on to the guns, which - apart from one or two touch-ups - I think are pretty much done. Here's where they're at now:

The next, and near final, step will be the heads - then it's just random details and touch ups. As well as that, I'm musing whether to give these camo clocks some camouflage patterns; the trouble is, I'm really pleased with how these have come out as is - just 2-3 layers of Militarum Green contrast over Corax White (with Agrax Earthshade in the recesses).

I'm worried that adding camo markings will basically spoil what I've done - I'll give it some more thought while I do the heads!

I wish I could say I was as happy with the Captain's cloak - this isn't the camo look, rather it's a bolder green as its the Company's colour. I've gone a more traditional route of a green base, some Coelia Greenshade in the recesses, and trying to build up highlights. I think I need to spend a lot more time, using a few glazes, to fix the transition of the highlight - right now I'm not very satisfied with it :ermm:

I'm happier with the tabard on the main part of the Captain - with the leathers done (matching the Intercessors by going from Screamer Pink base), all that's holding up progression on to the metallics is that cloak..!

Once I can get on to gold parts and weapons, hopefully he'll be quicker to get finished. Then after that, I might start painting some Bladeguard and Aggressors..!

Those scout cloaks look great! Also great progress on the captain and I think the cloak looks good, but you are right that the tabard looks better. I think it helps that there is the leather there to break it up a little and it is a smaller area. Great job on everything!

The leather and scout cloak looks great

As you say, the captain's cloak would benefit from some glazes over the transitions, but you're certainly off to a good start with it

Thanks all for the kind words!

Tonight I got two of the Scouts to a pint where I was happy enough to glue their arms on - apart from decals and their bases, they're done (hooray! ):IMG_20240508_212948_edit_1037280443665156.thumb.jpg.be61c770c9a5c09f149a26e2dce17c21.jpg

I've also been adding some glaze to the cloak - it's not 100% how I'd have wanted it, but it looks good enough. I've decided I'll say it's done, for my sanity if nothing else :whistling::laugh:

With that done I can move on to the other final details of the Captain; as well as that, I'll continue finishing Scouts. Hopefully they'll all be done not too long from now!

  • 2 weeks later...

Very quick update - had hoped I could declare the Scouts as finished tonight, but noticed a couple of small bits of touching up on two of them; anyway, here's the first 5 that are done:

Hopefully the others can be declared 'done' tomorrow - then I can focus on getting the Captain finished...

Thank you @gaurdian31 and @Firedrake Cordova

Final touch ups done, here are the other five:

I'll get better pics after the weekend - glad these are finished, they feel like they've taken forever..!

Now I need to finish that Captain...

Thanks @Firedrake Cordova

the leather

Glad you both liked this - the leather is made very simple but effective through the use of Snakebite Leather Contrast over Balor Brown base (then Balor brown again to highlight); that Contrast paint is one of my favourites of the range

So here's where I'm at with the Captain - tonight I reached my favourite milestone in miniature painting, when there's no longer any base primer showing anywhere

However, I had a little bit of a panic when I realised I have mislaid the crux terminatus, with the end of the ropes :ermm::confused: So I'm going to hastily paint a spare tilting shield from the Bladeguard Veteran kit and stick that there instead. Not too much to do and he's finished though, thankfully!

Lol I just got that captain too... I think I broke off the end of one of his ropes.

They certainly seem like the type of component that would be ridiculously easy to break

Here's how the replacement for that part is coming along:

I've got to highlight the paper and seal, and finish the skull, but I think that'll be an OK substitute

Thank you @Firedrake Cordova and @gaurdian31

So I finished the rest of the miniature - here is Captain Therryn Ouranos, Master of the Fleet, the Astral Blade, Captain of the Ashen Sentinels 4th Company:

I'll see if I can get some better pictures tomorrow - but I'm glad I got him done, just in time before heading off on holiday at the end of the week..!

...and these chaps will be waiting next in line for some paint when I get back

Thank you @Firedrake Cordova, @gaurdian31 and @Wolf Lord Duregar:smile:

As promised, here's some better pictures, firstly of the Scouts:

The two 5-man squads:

For games of Kill Team:

Close up of the auspex - glowing contact markers were a bit of an accident to be honest!

Finally, had a slight mishap when doing the decals - I managed to move the one on the Sniper, so now it's slightly on the 'huh' (to borrow a local expression :whistling::laugh:). Seeing as his arm is at angle it won't be too noticeable on the table top, so I can live with it.

Next, some pictures of the Captain...
