As always, great work. I'm ceaselessly impressed (and in a way, envious) with the quality, speed and quantity of what's going on here

  • 1 month later...

'Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the house, not a creature was stirring - except for me still chipping away at Heavy Intercessors

I think another couple of weeks and I'll have these done.

In more exciting news, I've finally finished the Bladeguard Veterans

And finally, as a Christmas treat  here's a pic of everything I've painted so far for the Ashen Sentinels (minus Scouts, as I forgot/didn't have room to set them out

I particularly like those Bladeguard.

I hope they fare better than Captain Ouranos on the table.

Thank you  I used them for the first time in a game of Boarding Actions, and they were shot off the table by Tau with Railrifles

That would be the dreaded NUS: New Unit Syndrome

  • 4 weeks later...

So I've finally finished the Heavy Intercessors and Captain:

Later than planned, I caught some flu type thing in the new year so I didn't touch any paints or miniatures for a few days!

I've started the next units for this army - two Desolation Squads. The merry go round of panel-lining and highlights starts again!

Finally, I've started work on an Apothecary. Question out the Fraters here: what colour for his tabbard? The options are either:

- Company colours (so, red)

- Chapter colour (grey)

Thanks for any input and suggestions to help me decide which colour he'll wear

Pressed post too early

Very nice as always.

Have you changed the recipe for your guys, or is it just the lighting that makes them look a bit Space Wolfy? The captain photo especially has a very blue tint to it.

I've not changed the recipe, but you're right, the Captain does look to have a tint of blue  It's just the lighting, the camera on my phone seems to struggle with certain colours under certain lighting conditions. The red helmets often end up looking washed out, for example.  I'm due a new phone later this year, hopefully it'll be one with a better camera

I didn’t think you’d have changed it but there’s a notable difference in the photo. It’s amazing the difference it can make. Some colour combos are harder to photograph than others I think. I got the same problem when photographing my t’au. The difference between these two pics for example:

Top one with daylight behind me, bottom one with artificial lights. It was so hard to get the photos to reflect the actual colours used. Top one is closer to reality but neither are correct.

lol just looked at the thread again and the colours look normal - realised I was looking at the thread late in evening so my phone had the night shift display mode on

Not sure why it would enhance the blue though as it’s meant to reduce the blue light, but :shrug

Captain photo does look a lighter shade than the other models still, but a lot less blue.

If you're using a phone, then there's probably a lot of additional processing being done (saturation and contrast/curves enhancement, automatic black- & white point point adjustment). On top of that, automatic white balance isn't perfect, and sometimes gets fooled or gets it wrong for no apparent reason, e.g. I shot a 3 image burst with my DSLR, and the middle image had a different white balance, despite the the first and last being within 0.3s of each other.

I vote red tabard given the success with the cloak in the previous post.

I'd go with red too for the apothecary's tabbard, as you'll still have the shoulder pads to display the chapter colour

I'll third the choice to go red  itlit'll help him look "right" next to the other squads in the company

Thank you all for your feedback about the tabbard - I agree with all the points made, so Red it is

Figured I'd do the tabbard before finishing the armour, as I'd rather touch up the white if I get red on it, before it's all highlighted :whistling::laugh:

  • 3 weeks later...

A quick update - working my way through highlighting the armour on the Desolation Squad - 6 finished, 4 to go:

And still making slow progress on the Apothecary - having done the tabard, I've just finished highlighting the armour:

Next I will proceed to go over much of the highlights by adding chipping effects  I'll hopefully be able to share the results of doing that soon.
