Anyone know a Japanese alternative to Citadel shade paints?

Just getting into painting recently and using Mr Hobby since it's highly recommended and the markup on Citadel here is bananas. I can't see an obvious equivalent of shade paints though, and I was about to spend nearly a thousand yen (!!) on a pot of Drakenhof Nightshade but they were sold out. Does anyone happen to know of any options I could look out for?

Your choices are really Mr. Hobby or Tamiya and neither of them do a shade/wash range to my knowledge. Depending on where you are, you may be able to pick up paints from European or US makers. My local(ish) hobby store in Nagoya stocks Vallejo for example.

Thanks! I'll see if I can find some Vallejo. I'm in Osaka so hopefully someone will have it.

Another option could be buying acrylic inks at an art store and then thinning them to make your own washes. There are some recipes online.

The Problemeis, Tamiya Clears are rather Limited in color choice.

If you can get some basic matte medium, distilled water and flow improver you could make your own using waterproof artists ink maybe?

 

I used to do that years ago when I didn't fancy paying the citadel tax.

So 1000 yen that's like $10.56 in Aust dollars.... (apologies if I sound like an ) - not sure of the currency value but that isn't really that dear if that's the one colour you really need  you may spend more time effort and money looking for an alternative (as much as i dislike GW's selling practice's and costs...their paint/ washes are really good)

no matter what, i hope you find a Night shade substitute...

++EDIT++ i see you tried to get nightshade but it was sold out, disregard half of my post and focus on the "I hope you find a substitute part !
