Magos Takatus
I recently painted this for a friend of mine. He wanted the main armour colour to be orange so I settled for a nice Scale 75 colour called Peanut Butter combined with Vallejo's yellow ochre from the Chipping and Rust paint set. The metallic areas are mainly Darkstar and Scale 75 with a little bit of Citadel here and there. https://youtu.be/PusDl6l9ZS8 Master Toddius, Dr_Ruminahui, Bouargh and 8 others 5 6 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/379548-vashtorr-the-arkifane/ Share on other sites

Magos Takatus
Thank you. The oil wash really make the trim pop. Some people consider using an airbrush is cheating. Rubbish! Oil washes are the real cheat. Prot
Great job. The flesh is nicely done and a great contrast to the 'peanut butter'. ;) Magos Takatus and Firedrake Cordova 1 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/379548-vashtorr-the-arkifane/#findComment-5972262 Share on other sites
Magos Takatus
Thank you. It's not a massive departure from the default scheme but painting the flesh to look raw rather the more singed look of the GW method gives him a different feel. I think the horns could do with more detail but I think I'd have to put on some magnifiers and break out a new brush to manage that. Even then it might be beyond me. Master Toddius
I like the look of the flesh you painted. It still looks living (barely) and vital part of his being. Most painters are making the flesh look totally dead. Your result makes it more horrific and twisted. Great work. Magos Takatus
I'm glad we settled on the flesh looking that colour. My fried suggested very tanned flesh until I pointed out that it wouldn't contrast well with the armour. After that he agreed with my idea. He was pretty hands-off which was nice. If I ever try commission painting I will have to get used to a lot more specific briefs.
