mel_danes
I've got a pretty good amount of Phobos Armor infantry. I like the idea of a forward operations disruption force, sabotaging enemy facilities, misdirecting resources and generally being a nuisance. Using the Shadowspear contents as a baseline I'm working on what other units to add. Including outriders as they kind of fit, Warsuits are an obvious choice. This is the Army I've come up with so far, using units I already own. I've got another box of infiltrators I could build either way, which would take me right to 2000 pts. I know it's not competitive, I'm looking more for theme. What do you think, add, remove, replace, what would you do? CCE1981
It would help if you included a bit about how you intend to play. I am unsure about Eliminators, they can still be targeted at long range and are very fragile, Sniper Scouts however can't be targeted outside of 12" and your Phobos Captain can still attach to them, giving him protection as well. Attach the Phobos Lt to your big Reiver Squad, and give them Grav-Chutes, this gives them an effective 3d6" charge, with two available re-rolls. Also drop the 5-man unit. Suppressors aren't that good, even for 95 pts. You lack anti-tank weapons, Phobos centric just doesn't have the needed anti-tank that is needed. Something that you can do, is set up your army to avoid being shot until you are ready for it. Strategic reserves, Deep Striking Storm Speeders, that sort of thing will help. mel_danes 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/379594-shadowspear-inspired-army/#findComment-5973395 Share on other sites
sonsoftaurus
Sounds fun! If you are ok with not full primaris, Scouts fit the theme, and regular bikers could replace outriders while bringing some melta. Not phobos, but Inceptors could fit the idea, drop behind lines, fast. mel_danes 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/379594-shadowspear-inspired-army/#findComment-5973414 Share on other sites
Dracos
I feel this army needs a full three squads of las-fusil and as much as I’m not a fan of them Storm Speeders (I’m all about Primaris but boxnaughts and landspeeders are my jam) for anti-tank and monster. I’ve used Eliminators (not in 10e yet) and always found them to be super durable for their point cost. One, you can only get +1 to your save from cover, and two you can't improve your save beyond 3+ with cover. mel_danes 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/379594-shadowspear-inspired-army/#findComment-5973540 Share on other sites
mel_danes
My initial intent was to keep it to Primaris units only. I did not expect it to be a good all comers list, more theme than utility knife. Like Terminators, once we get new scouts they will be viable Primaris units too. I've got a full 10 man unit of sniper scouts, which were cheap as chips last I looked. I play Ultras and own Telion as well. Missile launcher or HB good here, or just straight snipers? On that front I have even more bolter scouts, and two landspeeder transports for them. Are the new Primaris speeders good? Tacitus
Sniper Scouts have to go ML. On the bright side, Telion makes the ML Precision if you want it. mel_danes 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/379594-shadowspear-inspired-army/#findComment-5973667 Share on other sites

I've not gone over the first born index cards, so I'm woefully ignorant of their abilities. ML embedded in a large Lone Operative unit of snipers. Split fire into other units or really double down on killing characters? I've not used my scouts in near a decade. They're defensive stalwarts, with good but not great guns. They can hurt Rank And File, but trying to snipe is still a losing game most of the time. The Eldar-ish Toughness characters can get boned by them - especially if they lack an invuln. But when you start getting into Terminator Captains, and such you're just too far behind the curve to keep up, let alone the actual monsters. Telion + 10 Snipers 9 Sniper rifles, 7 ish hits, 1 6+ - vs T 4 is about 3.5-4.5 Woundings. 3+-2 saves 1/3 of those, or 4++ to save half 3.5 to 4.5 damage leaves half a wound left on a generic Space Marine Captain - and Telion and/or the Missile Launcher will finish him off. 9 Rifles vs T6 Marneus Calgar: 7ish hit, 2ish wound. 1 damages for two - MAYBE - and then he FNP's at least one away. 9 Rifles vs 10 Tactical Marines. 7ish hits, 3.5 to 4.5 woundings, a third save, 2/3's are dead marines - 9 Rifles vs Roboute Guilliman. None, zip, nada. He's a Lone Operative standing next to a bunch of also (effectively) Lone Operative (I call it super stealth) Infiltrators and Precision does not counter Lone Operative. 9 rifles vs T11 Angron - 7ish hit. 1ish woundings. Half a save for 1 damage maybe. Sniping itself is actually worse this edition than last edition, even though the sniper rifles themselves may be just a skosh better. mel_danes 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/379594-shadowspear-inspired-army/#findComment-5973931 Share on other sites
