10e Dreadnoughts are bad….like really bad

There are other threads to talk about legends. Let talk about dreads and comparable units. 

I didn't run them yet. I would consider a Ballistus, maybe a redemptor, but both aren't painted up yet. In my opinion the other dreads are outshined by other stuff. Would love to run a DC dread or furiouso but not for the points.

Agreed, the BA special dreads are ridiculously overpriced. The DC Dread costs 195 points for a package that is worse overall than the much cheaper Ironclad.

 

However now that Primaris Dreads have the Dreadnought keyword, they can all ride on the Stormraven. I think there is some value in a Butalis hurtling into combat like that.

Are the dreadnought and Contemptor with assault cannon or melta datacards staying? I am a bit wary of making either at the moment only to see them gone in the Codex, I am sure I saw something about Venerable Dreds (Vulnerable might be a better word these days...) and box dreds being merged into one card that isn't going to Legends?

We aren’t sure yet, we are the second Codex coming out.

At present, it would be wise to abstain from spending on models you do not already want regardless of whether or not they will be in the codex. 

 

The wait won't be long for the codex. As soon as it comes about, we will know.

Wise words. In 9th edition, the new Marine codex came out around the end of September - start of October. Apparently we are the second codex after Nids this time so even so, the Codex is probably only around 3 months away. If you like the models, great. But if you are looking for competitive choices, it might be best to hold off.

Totally agreed with the above advice.

 

Plus, if you align new purchases with a new codex you might get to experience one of the best feelings in 40k - your favourite models getting fantastic rules :D
