No, they get hate because they were injected into a story that didnt need them, left to do little to nothing of note but act as plot mcguffins a few times, and have then been made central to again, a story that never needed them in the first place, and indeed did not have them originally.

I know right? Almost as if the marine bolter porn stan's (guilty lol) want to hear more about Astartes and primarchs/ big names of the era vs mortals doing D&D things in between. :teehee: I think free thinking creatives call this subverting expectations and tell core fans don't know what they actually want.

I personally think the Perpetuals make sense, as an idea, but don't think they were handled properly by GW/BL/FW whatever. The Emperor being an immortal throughout history makes it so that there can be others. If you want to establish that he had companions, that's fine.

I think it would have made sense to have the Heresy Series proper, the Primarchs spinoff, but also have a Perpetuals spinoff series of novellas. Have the Perpetuals spinoffs be short stories leading up to the scattering. Show why the Perpetuals disagree with the Emperor and hopefully have it be more than Emperor "good" agree with Emperor levels of writing. You could have the series be set throughout the millennia leading up to it. Show a little bit of what was lost but keep the focus on the character interactions instead of the surroundings. Hell have UR-025 make an appearance to really tie things together.

Most of the HH storylines were injected really. If we go back to 2nd edition, the only specified points of the HH were Horus's corruption at Davin, Istvanns III and V, the burning of Prospero and the Siege of Terra. There were minor mentions of other events like the UMs getting sidelined and the Wolves and Dark Angels leading the relief force but that is just about it.

Some further stuff came from the Collected Visions and FW books but to an old Long Fang like me, that stuff is just as much modern rectons as the Perpetuals plotline. Ultimately everyone has their own take on what they enjoyed. I quite liked the Perpetuals as they provided a way to give more historical background on the Emperor without having the Big E himself just provide an exposition dump of his life story. The Shattered Legions plotlines tended to leave me cold but I can appreciate they are probably very popular with people who play those factions. Also I was not a fan of Wraihgt's Scars novels but I am in a minority there. Everyone has parts of the story they enjoyed and parts they did not but those parts don't always align.

Apart from Damnation of Pythos, that just sucked.

I agree with all of this except I actually quite liked Damnation of Pythos lol! My least enjoyed volume was Deliverance Lost.

I'm hopeful that the End and the Death Volume 3 will be right up near the top though! (on topic)

I’m not the only one surprised by how quick and the lack of prior announcement, right?

I definitely did a double take. I assumed the absolute earliest they'd drop it would be the Black Library Celebration in February, but even that I figured would be cutting it close to Part II.

For those of us about to brave the new webstore to pick up one of these - pray! I’m not sold on the new webstore at the best of times, but to navigate for a highly sought-after novel and battling scalpers… This might be the time my luck runs out, and the final novel in the series is the one that I don’t get a limited. If that’s the case, then so be it - I’m not paying a scalper at exorbitant prices!

I'm just going to grab the hardback, as I decided against the limited editions for these ones.

Thankfully this is on a different weekend than the bigger Black Library event, which means it won't interfere with any attempts to get other books, like it did last time.

It I recall, the black library event is in February, while, unless this has an extremely long pre-order window, it'll drop within two weeks*

* assuming a two week window

Yeah, it should be in February. That it isn't on the black library weekender is a good move, whether intentional or not. Last year, whatever SoT book was on it and it absolutely sucked if you were interesting in anything else released then.

I wasn’t able to get The Solar War LE when it was released. At the time, I was very disappointed; later I was glad I didn’t have to stress about getting all of the following LE books.
Best of luck to those of you looking to completed your collection!

Yep, same here. I wasn't actively after it, but once Solar War had gone, I decided to just get the hardback versions as they come out.

I always assumed that for such an important release they gave us something like an iconic diorama of the Emperor against Horus by FW or "just" the Emperor himself. Something grandiose!

After all, this is the end of more than a decades of novels, books and the culmination of the story of Horus Heresy.

It's similar to the celebration for 40 years, last year. It was so minimal and almost invisible.

I don't know. Maybe there is something more in the near future?
