After watching the AoW stream this morning on the new Nid 'dex, we're going to need a bit more than a couple points adjustment.  Guard is already at a 43% WR against Nids, and Nids just got better.  It's not a major glow-up, but the holes and weaknesses of the nids got patched, and they got options to totally change the way the army plays.

 

Don't get me wrong, the Nids look AMAZING, and I really love their detachments and rules.  The problem is that we have ONE game plan right now (Sentinels & Arty), and 2-3 of the detachments just ignore us. 

 

The one that 'scares' me the most is the infiltrators.  The infiltrators can be in our face turn 1 (with a post-roll-off redeploy!)  With our limited mobility, it looks like it would be really easy to tie Guard up in our DZ until turn 3+, at which point we've surrendered board control, and a couple turns of scoring.  The counter is our infantry, but even at 55-60 points their effectiveness is really questionable. 

 

The 2nd one is the horde of little bugs.  With the ability to ignore [BLAST] (even if only on 1-2 units), our main firepower becomes moot, and Guard direct firepower is lacking.

 

Funny enough, the one that I'm least concerned with is Crusher Stampede.  We have [Lethal Hits] to deal with the big nasties, and our infantry can actually screen these models nicely (the one time they can do their job!).  So this detachment isn't a counter to our playstyle.  What saddens me the most is the potential foreshadowing of the Armored Company detachment rules...

 

The final hurdle is that enough Nid units got a points decrease, as AoW said "just enough for an extra unit".  Looking at @jarms48 points adjustments, again, I think those are on par with the Nids adjustments, just enough for 1-1.5 units.  But I think with the new Nid detachments shoring up their weaknesses, we're still 1.5-2 steps down (potentially 3!). 

 

 

 

Not a wishlist as much as a prediction.

GW has been making options in game match what there’s models for and what comes in the boxes.

 

this tells me there will be a new kit for Catachans soonish, and the only options in it will be flamers, unless the new codex does a big 180 on that.

GW have certainly limited rules to match the models in the past, but have they ever limited an updated model kit to match previous rules? I'm thinking about the multipart Lieutenant in Strike Force Agastus as an example, but I could be wrong.

 

If Jungle Fighters get an update similar in scope to the Shock Troops/Veteran Guardsmen kits, I'd personally be shocked if they had so few options. As you said, it's possible the codex will expand the wargear available to Catachans.

It would be kinda hard to give Catachans more weapon options without making them flat out better than  CSTs.

The current kit only has double flamers. A kit would give them extra options and they could update the datasheet with the codex release.

New catachans would be great.

 

Why not give them all the option to have flamers like the SM’s get.

Is that even a concern for GW?  DKoK are flat out better than CSTs already.

Do you mean everyone in the squad gets a flamer? Highly doubtful we'll get that on a basic infantry unit. :P

 

Maybe we'll get a SWS-kit at some point again though.

Being a wish list thread it would be nice.

 

Also why cannot we have allow all weapons systems to be fitted to the hull and sponsons on the Russ, 3 lascanons would be nice.

Hey, maybe giving Catachans hand flamers, like d3 shots at S3 AP0.  Shame that's not on their sprue.  But I do have a metric :cuss:ton of hand flamers from 2nd edition in my bits box!
