So there's a new gang of Stormcast Eternals based on characters from Black Talon.  I always thought they should make minis based on some of the characters from WH+, and I was surprised that the promo models weren't connected. So what I'm wondering is whether or not GW might start doing the same thing with 40k.

It's been a while since I had my subscription, so I'm not sure who I'd suggest for immortalization; I'm leaning toward the Walock and his Wraithguard mom from In the Garden of Ghosts, or possibly the Techpriest and her Bot from Kill Protocols..

If GW does this, it would probably be something coming up as opposed to something that's already been done, and it would have to be something that had its own series rather than something from a single episode in Hammer and Bolter.

I partially doubt it personally.. while I dont know a lot about the details, Black talon has been an AoS  character for quite a while already ( I think the first mini was in the same year as 40k 8th edition ) and I think its been part of books too.

However, if it was.. I could see the Angels of Death cast in a similar combo 4+1 ( 4 marines I think ? and 1 Livia.) given how involved GW was with that one. (incl. Jes goodwin concepts.)

Especially if this is the AoS counterpart of the new Warhammer+ miniature(s) (its unclear if they are) and there will be a 40k counterpart again.

Do you mean specifically WH+ characters, or any from the background? Because the latter has happened for a while.  I've not watched enough WHTV to know unique characters. Would definitely be good to get some as models though.

Weren't GW kinda already doing this with the Geller pox infected and RT kill teams? Narrative/ character focused KT's? Mabye lack of interest made them double down on more generic KT, with the narrative in the KT campaigns ?

I forgot that Neve Blacktalon was a AoS character before the Black Talon show.

And yes, the ship commander from the Blood Angels show would be cool to have in miniature form because she's something we don't already have.

I imagine if they do one it’ll be the Blood Angels. They don’t really have any other content for 40K.

- Eldar or Tau characters from 'The Exodite'

- Iron Warriors or Guard characters from 'Iron Within'

- Characters from 'The Interrogator'

- Characters from the forthcoming 'Pariah Nexus' series

So there are a few options for 40k

Ya, this is one of those cases where us looking through GW's FY report like 2 weeks ago helps, and ya, I reckon it'll be Space Marines for 2 reasons:

  • GW's bottleneck right now is their mini production facility, and they have no plans to expand their factories
  • We already estimated Warhammer+ to be only around 100k subscribers, and we were right, now up to 130k

So just imagine being a guy inside GW advocating such a project, making his case to his bosses to make 40k Warhammer+ minis:

  • It better be worth the time on the plastic mould injection machines, because so many Temporarily Out of Stock minis already
  • The addressable market is those 130k subscribers...unless those minis have broader appeal somehow...

...mayhaps some moar Spess Mareens mayhaps?  It's no accident they chose a Stormcast Celestial project, I reckon, by the same logic.

You guys already mentioned the Blood Angels of Death show, I concur.  There was also that awesome Astartes show that started out on YouTube and is now exclusively on Warhammer+.  True scale Mk VII armour, remember those 2 Veterans that last episode with the short shoulder Shazam capes, man.  And like how they threw an elf with these Black Talon guys, you got those Psiamese Psykers in Episode 4.  That'd be awesome!

Going back a bit the The Beast Arises series, I've been saying since then GW & BL missed a trick by not having a tie in model for each boor, or a limited series of characters from the books. Likewise with Warhammer+, characters from their animations are no-brainers. For example, a Kill Team box of the Astartes animation.

I think the Blacktalon miniatures are awesome so I hope we see GW follow up on this idea in the future.

For 40k, the most likely is Space Marines. Giving us the BA would be a good fit but I think if it was going to happen it already would have.

I'm a (reasonably) long time proponent of First Claw (from the Night Lords book series) getting a character goon squad.

Artel miniatures have made an excellent rendition of First Claw, so I think that could force GW's hand eventually, sort of like it did with Eisenhorn and Gabriel Angelos.

Yeah, they were great.

I'm continuously kicking myself that I didn't order a set before Artel were forced to change them.

I tried to watch the Age of Sigmar H&B episodes, it just fell superbly hollow. It just felt like a poor attempt to get more people interested in AoS (Which to be fair H&B, does have some cool stuff, but is largely there to market the miniatures). Almost, like it was a shadow of it's former self or something....bah probably just me.

Personally I think it's a missed opportunity not to have the Warhammer+ exclusive minis be of characters from the animated content. If the 40k mini was Livia Solken instead of a fairly bland (albeit accurate to classic art) Kasrkin I reckon 2023 subs would be significantly higher. I understand for the first year you can't do that but by this point they've had 2 years to react to the reception to Angels of Death and put a mini into production.

Generally GW are pretty bad at this kind of cross-media tie-in though. Titus is the first time they've had a mini tie-in for a digital product ready for when that product releases. They even missed the launch of DoWIII by over three months with their Gabriel Angelos mini by which time the game was already dead and buried and any hype which might have led to model purchases completely evaporated.

Sticking the classic Fantasy minis up on Made-to-Order when they get released in Total War would be an easy win as well.
