I haven't tried them yet but I am not convinced. They have a fun collection of models and abilities which is great for Killteam but in 40K, they are still 18 points per model for 1 T3 wound and 4+ save. Maybe others have had success with them but they look overpriced to me.

What’s the general consensus for using in 40K?

Only used them once so far, but honestly they're not great, but also not terrible.

I have 10, with all of the specialists built because of Kill Team and the varied wargear is not only not great, it's annoying.

If you want just a decent unit to field, I'd recommend:

1 Wraithcannon; 2 Blasters; and 7 Power Swords/Shuriken Pistols

As for why you should ignore the other equipment:

  1. Neuro Disruptor is...bad: it's probably missing the Devastating Wounds keyword or something, because as it is, it's just not good into anything, and it's just annoying to roll another gun; plus the AP-1 of the Shuriken Pistol is better than wounding on 2s with AP0.
  2. Fusion Pistol is also just bad. D3 damage is not great even with Melta 2 because...you need to get within 3" to benefit; S8 isn't enough to worry vehicles, and while AP-4 is nice it's just not really worth giving up your (3A) Power Sword for.
  3. Ranger Long Rifle is cute, but we have way better options for general-use Precision, and Voidscarred get Precision (and Lethal Hits) vs one enemy unit for the whole game on every weapon, so not worth building (outside of actual Kill Team usage)
  4. Shredder is alright, but the Blaster is still just great. While it's not amazing for anti-vehicle work now, two of them plus the Battle Host wound reroll (if the Wraithcannon doesn't need it) means they have a reasonable chance of using their AP-4 and d6 Damage vs something that cares.
  5. Shuriken Cannon is alright, but again, we have much better bearers of SCs than Voidscarred, much better to pack in the stronger Wraithcannon (which threatens vehicles much more) - not a bad choice, but I'd say WCs are just stronger the majority of the time.
  6. Shuriken Rifles: they're also not bad, and you could leverage the Voidscarred as a ranged sniping unit if you wanted to. I personally think that 3A Power Swords are more useful than these.

I think the above loadout is honestly an alright unit. A bit expensive, but they're ok.

By many aspects, I do rather Voidreavers. Most options in the Voidscarred are IMHO not adapted to 40k for a packed unit. For Voidscarred,  Falochu and Wayseeker may eventually be good options but contextual - yet it may sometimes justify their use.

I do rather fielding MSU of Voidreaver specialized with powerswords or with special weapons, as their battleline status is not a limiting factor. Sadly they cannot have leaders except Ynnari characters. But with the Visarch they can be interresting.

Big asset for both units is the D-Cannon but it requires going up to 10. yet in small games it represents a asset in their favour as points may eventually limit access to Ghostswarriors.
