Looking for ‘Oldhammer’ rules for current/10th edition units.

Hi all, given that current edition has seen the squatting of a lot of OG Space Marine stuff I’m considering playing one of the older editions of 40K. I have fond memories of 2nd but I’d like to use models, and armies, that appeared from 3rd onwards and was  wondering if any Fraeter could point me in the direction some fan made/home brew rules making newer units backwards compatible? Any help anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Not that I have any particular enthusiasm to play 10th myself, but I have to question the suggestion that 10th has "squatted" anything? Okay a couple extra SM units moved to Legends, but it's the first time since the 8th Edition indexes that the rules for those Legends units have been up-to-date with the core range rules, and it's the first time GW have explicitly stated that Legends being allowed in games should be the default behaviour everywhere outside of tournaments. So arguably, the range of SM units usable in a default game setting has increased (because legends is actively allowed/encouraged now), not decreased?

I dunno, don't mean to rain on your parade but it seems like if you're going to be playing older editions you're already not in a competitive setting and operating outside the norms of how most people play the game, so Legends units are perfectly valid in that context? Like sure if 10th doesn't appeal to you at all (it doesn't to me really) then go for it, I guess I just find the reasoning weird.

You know what, that makes a lot sense,  Even units that aren’t going to end up with Legends datasheets like the bikes actually have rules with the Indices. Since you left your message, my brother and I have decided that anything without a Codex entry can use the Legends rules, and anything that doesn’t have Legends rules can use the rules that came in  Indices that came out when the edition dropped.

Whilst it's not much good for infantry, you COULD always play 3rd or 4th edition and use the 2004 Chapter Approved vehicle design rules to represent modern vehicles.

I’d just play 3rd or 4th Edition proper. You can grab the old books for pocket change last I checked. Just see if others want to participate and do some retro nights or something.
